Ivory used to be the standard bar soap in my house growing up. To be honest, I think it is drying and leaves a bit of a residue on your skin. It can be quite harsh as well. It's scent is strong but it does not linger. It tends to give your skin that "squeaky clean" feeling.

Smells good, floats, and inexpensive. I no longer use this as a bath soap due to some allergenic reactions. Great for washing hands though.

I love this soap. I think it could probally be a little harsh for some people, but I have very oily skin and no sensitivities to anything. I love using this soap as a facial soap because it seems to help with the oiliness and breakouts that I sometimes get. I also like using it in the shower, I like the smell and the way it cleans. I don't do baths so the floating gimic doesn't matter to me :)

I always liked Ivory bar soap. I stayed at a lake cabin in Western Ontario, Canada, in the early 1960's one summer, and it did not have a shower or a tub. If you bathed, you used the lake! Anyhow, we bought bars of Ivory soap since Ivory soap floats on top of the water, and that was handy. Let me tell you that Rainy Lake is cold!

Somewhat drying. Could be worse. I like using sometimes during the summer, but way too drying for the winter and probably one bar alone would be overkill, and i would require a skin graft.

Inexpensive and does the job without giving me a rash. No scents. That's all I ask for.
Newcleus 08/19/2005
Umm it floats...that's about it.

For my own opinion, I Hate Ivory, i break out in rash,My skin gets dry, my tub gets filmy and highly dull with this soap, even after i cleaned the tub!! I like the scent of this soap, but that is just about it!! its too harsh and strong for my delicate body!! aloha!!

I am a 16 yr. old and dealing with the hormones which means mild acne...i got this soap because it was pure thus gentle enough for the face. Or so i thought. At first it did cleanse my face pretty good but it left it extremely dry and then these small itchy bumps formed on my cheeks...i dont recommend this for the face. it sucks. No wonder it's so cheap.

CRAP

It does the job and keeps you from smelling, but that's about all it does.
sfalconer 12/13/2004
It smells terrible
dragonman 10/25/2004
Old people soap that's what I think when I use this. It smells weird, seems mild enough...I just don't like the smell or the plain white color.

Boy, I think people are forgetting what the definition is soap is. If you want something to moisturize yourself, go get Dove (yuck). I don't normally buy soaps to smell good either. Ivory consistently cleans me, period. The only downside is because the company injects bubbles into the bars, it doesn't last as long as most other brands - this allows the soap bar to float.

(1) It dries out your skin. (2) It stinks. It seems that the only people that like the smell are the ones that are traveling down memory lane to their childhoods. (3) It's a flimsy bar of soap. You can use it two times, & it breaks in half. Then, you have little Ivory babies all over your shower. (4) It doesn't lather well.

I love Ivory for getting a fresh, clean shower. When I was a teen, it did dry my face a little- but it also helped control breaking out. I do use other bath soaps, but must use Ivory on hot muggy days in order to feel really clean.
philc 03/22/2003
Very good because it is supposedly pure and skin friendly. The bar is shaped right and it doesn't have a heavy smell.

I think Ivory is just what it is..one of the cheapest soaps out there. It doesn't lather like other quality soaps, and it lacks for so much scent-wise. It contains no moisturizers, and it is very drying. In my opinion, it would only be used in my household at the sink to wash hands with..never in the shower.

Smells just like the dishwashing liquid.

Doesn't make enough suds.

Castlebee, I agree with you once again. Ivory reminds me of my childhood too and is a great soap for children. Most other soaps are too heavily perfumed etc. for kids. Also I find it to be the only unscented soap that smells good- or, more accurately, does not smell bad. I like to use the liquid Ivory soaps in the pump containers by the bathroom sink, and they are also great when alot of people are using the shower- like a houseful of quests during Christmas holidays etc.
pumkin49 10/01/2001
I love the smell but it drys out your skin too much.
afterglow70 06/13/2001
The worst soap ever made. It dries out my skin. I had to use this crap growing up. I just hated it!
CastleBee 05/25/2001
For some reason - I'm sure it's some kind of childhood association - I really love the very clean, light scent of this soap. Ivory is especially good as bathroom hand soap because it cleans and rinses well and leaves no residue. It also makes a great bath soap, especially for children - it's mild and, after all these years it still floats!
