Here's what I had to say about Thriftway in my recent blog post about choosing your grocery store in the Portland-area: "What they sell: Local, healthy, organic, and specialty foods. Brand names. The Pros: A hybrid somewhere between New Seasons and Safeway, Thriftway offers a lot of options. You can pick up your favorite brand names and local products all at one store. The traditional supermarket environment without any "membership cards." The Cons: Stores are mostly on the west side."For information about other Oregon grocery stores, visit my blog at portlandeconomy.blogspot.com

The weak link in this store is the Deli Dept, they seem to have a problem keeping good help, I have beeen shopping there for 40 years, three weeks ago I went to the Deli for a large slice of Ham counter help refused to open a new ham up until all the small thin end of the last ham was sold I told her I was looking for a large cut called Coporate with my concern, no call back, Today I bought some egg salad at the deli and some picnic fixings on the way out I grabbed a handfull of plastic utensils the deli person named Jeanie informed that I take utensils everyday?? and that the next time I took some of the free plastic utensils she would call security, Bizarre I admit to having helped myself in the past to some free plastic utensils, there is no signage that states free quantity allowed?? If I am making a purchasr from the deli and take a few extra for a picnick being threatened with security and being told the store manager is store manager has oredered this is very customer friendly!!!!!!!!
