This guy appears to be somewhat racist to me in my opinion. He didn't play any white guys and did not attempt to recruit them.

First off very few coaches on this list BUILT a program out of nothing John Thompson did! Second you cannot just look at a college coach on wins and loses John stood for more than like when he stood up against PROP. 48 also he never had a violation while at G'Town and look at the Pros he put into the NBA. That's why he get's my 5 stars.

You can not underscore enough the social ramifications of what he did. He built a program from NOTHING...they had 3 wins the year before he arrived. Hoya paranoia came at right at you with a snarl. The Georgetown band blasted the Darth Vader theme, rocking the Cap Centre as Big John brought his lions into battle was a sight and an experience to behold. Yes, you were pretty much beaten before you took the floor. Only 2 of his players didn't graduate, and at Georgetown, there weren't any shortcuts or basket weaving classes. Oh, and the man is NOT a racist, so if you don't know him, quit hating.

He did nothing without Patrick Ewing, and by the way, thank for the Bronze Medal in '88.
