Jeff Bezos (Amazon.com) 1

Acts like he is self-made and you can do it too. Turns out he went to Princeton and I am guessing knew some high profile banking types you and me would never meet. He's humble beginnings act rubs me wrong. The whole story about he was riding in a car and though of Amazon and you can do it too. How about the story where he called someone up for $100,000,000 in financing. I got a great idea, so now maybe I will go get the CEO of Citi or AMEX to return my call for that 100 mill. You can do it. Sure, let me know how you do.

Amazon.com is a great idea on paper, but it's not likely to show any kind of significant profit for years, and may not ever get into the black. So why is Bezos so highly rated? Vision is only one aspect or qualification for bigtime success in business, but the final evaluating criterion is $$$$, which Amazon has had a difficult time keeping its hands on.

Jeff Bezos (Amazon.com) 5

"In the land of the blind, the one-eyed man is king." So says a Forbes magazine billboard featuring Jeff Bezos as you get off highway 101 into San Francisco's tech heavy SOMA district. You can say what you want about Amazon.com, but most would admit that Jeff Bezos' vision and execution have forever changed the face of shopping. By building an easy to use Web site with a massive selection and reliable delivery, Bezos has made it easier, and at times cheaper, to buy something from the comfort of your home, then to go to a store. Throughout the enormous peaks and valleys of e-commerce, Bezos has stuck to his guns. Bigger is better, user experience is crucial, security and reliability can not be compromised, and people need tools to help them make a purchasing decision - all of these aspects have contributed to make Amazon the only remaining giant of online B2C commerce. I hope it works out for him, but regardless, Bezos will go down as one of the great business leaders of the 90's, and his achievements will make it easier for those who follow.
