This three means either I don't care or I don't know. I'm more concerned about getting blinded by their way too gaudy jackets with all of those advertisements for Grizzly Chewing Tobacco, Ajax, and Tang... I can't make up my mind....I do know one thing though. If we ever have a war between the North and the South again, it'll probably be over whether this is a sport. And yeah, my uniform will be blue...

Yes it's a sport, but it always seemed to me that the car was doing most of the work.

Of course auto racing is a sport. Once upon a time it was a sport that ordinary guys could get into, but now the cars cost millions and the old dirt tracks are almost all gone, so I'm no longer interested.

A person should burn more than 150 calories and not fuel in racing! This is totally nothing but cars contributing to global warming and noise pollution. Ugh!

Okay, so you have to be up to a difficult challenge, you have to be in shape, and you have to be quick-thinking ... but all that applies to picking up on women. Oh, wait, the French do call womanizing le sport ... But NASCAR still isn't one.

It may require skill, but so does shooting a BB gun at the carnival to win prizes. It is entertaining to many (I think it has the largest attendance of any "sport" in the US), but a sport? Nope, sorry...it involves a motor running on something other than human power. Not a sport. I look at it as entertainment...influential entertainment because of the large crowds (live and on TV), but not a sport.

Hell naw it aint a sport. Id rather watch WNBA than these rednecks drive for 10 hrs. Dale Earnhart Jr. is ugly like a mofo he overrated. At least some of those WNBA gurls got some back though, but they aint pretty in the face, TIP DRILL!!

Definitely a sport, a very expensive and exclusive sport. Seems like you either love it or hate it with no in between. I like the Blue Collar Tour's suggestion for the Tampax 500.

No not a sport, sure it may get adrenaline going, it may be challenging mentally, but doesn't street racing do the same thing? Is that considered a sport? Not to mentions how spectator unfriendly it is, how exciting can it be to sit and watch a bunch of aluminum shells with an engine and a driver inside of them go around in circles, wow exhilerating.

Automotive sports are demanding, not only physically, but mentally. The driver has to concentrate on the road, the other cars around, the car itself, and be able to handle the G-force put on their bodies. Even for the pit crews it is a work out. Having to carry a tire over a wall, change the tires on each side in less that 15 seconds is no easy task.

NASCAR, or any race car driving for that matter, is a sport. The physical demands are astounding. The hand-eye coordination that is required over that of typical driving is unobtinable for most folks. I much prefer F1 or CART to NASCAR because they use more road-courses, as opposed to NASCARs mostly, oval tracks. This is due to the limited handling capabilities of NASCAR suspensions.

Its more physically demanding and more dangerous than even my beloved football. Plus you most certainly cannot do this drunk.

The most unwatchable abortion of an alleged sporting event ever perpetuated on western civilization. It's metal coffin-billboards designed to sell a product. . .people watch with rapt attention because someone could die at any moment. . .did I mention that it's 3 hours of left turns?. . .I think they should make the sport more dangerous instead of making the cars safer. At least I'm honest about my interest in the carnage.

before you criticize nascar, and say they're just driving around a track, aren't baseball players just standing around waiting to catch or hit a ball, and basketball players shooting a ball through a hoop. i tell you what, after the of a race look at the drivers and tell me if they're just as worn out as a stick and ball athlete. coy gibbs (joes son) once said that driving a busch car was harder than playing college football.

NASCAR is a sport so much. I dont know how u can call something SO competitive and physically demanding not a sport. Have you ever taken a sharp turn and everyone in your car shoots to one side of the car, now imagine that 3 or 4 times faster, doing it for 3-4 hours straight, its 120-150 degrees in the car, the most brake you get is 14 seconds, enough to take a quick drink of water, and then your out racing again. The record of g-forces taken by a driver is in the IRL, 238 g-forces, was of course injured, and he be racin in like half a year, these guys are tough! And yes, they do physically train for the sport. Also, if you still dont believe that its a sport, a test WAS done to see if it was physically demanding, and a guy got up to 214 heart beats per minute durng a wreck, and for a driver not in the wreck, still got up to 174 which is well over twice the ammount of his normal heat beat. Not to mention that drivers lose 6-10 lbs. each race, remember... this is only 3 hours!!! Tell me NASCAR and other motorSPORTS are not sports now! And I hope your normal comute to work isnt like this!

No, since when is driving a car really really fast around and around and around a track considered a sport?

I feel that is a competetive sport but only a tiny percentage of the population will ever get to participate. Many people only watch it for the car wrecks (myself included), but it gets boring after 5 minutes.

No. It requires a certain amount of skill and stamina and I suppose it's entertaining to some but that doesn't make a sport.

I do not think NASCAR is necessarily a sport, but it fun to watch on TV. And the fans are very competitive when it comes to their favorite drivers. I think any kind of recreational activity that is positive and stops people from doing bad things is good.

Yeah, I drive around in circles every day, too--it's called the beltway and the commute. If only I COULD go over a 100 (without getting pulled over) . . .
