 | FranksWildYears (58) 04/16/2007 | If the score is determined exclusively by a judge or judges, then it is a forced fit as a sport in my opinion. A sport should have a scoring system that is indisputable and apparent to all of the participants and spectators, something like crossing a finishing line, puting a ball in a net, reaching the oppostions end zone. Once you put the outcome into the hands of a panel of judges it looses its sporty-ness. Then it is a competition, but not a sport. So take ballroom dancing, figure skating, gymnastics etc, out of the olympics. Boxing is pretty iffy too.

 | irishgit (151) 04/16/2007 | While it may require an extremely high degree of athleticism, it is art, not sport.

 | blue47 (13) 04/16/2007 | I don't know how much a sport it is, but you take the best basketball/football/runner and put them through a ballet routine, they'll be gasping for breath!

 | XAgent (30) 04/15/2007 | Ballet not so much. Now salsa, cha-cha, tango; those are defiantly sports.

 | PTRoxieMisha (3) 09/20/2004 | Dance is NOT a sport - it is an art form. It was MEANT to be an art form, even though it is the most rigorous form of art. Unfortunately, too many of the cheesy, glitzy dance competitions advertised in many dance magazines seem to be trying to turn dance into a sport. I am very much against dance competitions because of this. Sorry competitors, but that is my opinion.

 | TheBaldOneMpls (0) 05/27/2004 | Even if we're talking about a dancing competition, the competitors are being graded against an ideal. The idea of the competition is based on someone else's opinion. Not a sport.
