 | Sierrasstar (4) 05/21/2007 | i totally agree 100 percent with minkeydude exept i would have to give it a 1 star because the generic stuff at my local grocery store tastes really bad and they only have the bacic three flavors

If you're going to indulge in a product that is so bad for you, it's at least got to taste good. So you are buying the generic because it's cheap? Stores always have some great sales going on - pick the quality brand that's on sale.

 | WarrenMass (0) 08/08/2005 | I used to buy Food Lion brand ice cream when I lived in Texas because it was not only cheaper than Blue Bell, it was BETTER!
You generally do get what you pay for, except when you pay for Blue Bell, in which case you get ripped off.

 | PTRoxieMisha (3) 01/07/2005 | As long as it's low fat or no sugar added, I really don't care. I actually tried a Shoprite brand ice cream a few years ago and happened to like it, so do not always assume that all generic brands of stuff are bad.

 | JephGord (0) 10/18/2004 | It depends on *which* store brand. For those of you who live in LA, Private Selection, available at Ralph's, is a good, low-cost option (it might be available in other regions too, but I don't know the specifics). Their vanilla is pretty boring, but some their other flavors are generally terrific-- I particularly recommend New York Cherry Cheesecake (good cheesecake flavor, with tasty bits of crust), Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough (more dough than most other brands), and Cinnamon Caramel Cashew Crunch. Thrifty's ice cream, sold at LA-area Rite-Aids, is also very good. Most of their flavors aren't that creative, but if you want something fairly basic, like mint chip or strawberry, Thrifty's is both delicious and cheap.
