 | Creamy Goodness (4) 02/24/2004 | I have to disagree with minkeydude. Just because the inventor was in America when he invented basketball, doesn't mean that it is an American idea. Celine Dion is more famouse in America, but I don't see anyone considering her to be an American Citizen. Oh and his name is James Naismith, not John.

 | minkey (40) 02/24/2004 | Basketball was invented by John Naismith in Springfield, Massachusetts; hence where the Basketball Hall of Fame is. Naismith was Canadian but the game is considered an American invention.
