Barbies are a classic. I think mostly all girls owned one. And they're still very popular today.

This doesn't belong on this list. Whats the problem with a little girl having enjoyment? Lets do away with all forms of simple entertainment and then we can all sit at our computer keyboards and have nothing to rant about, because really 90% of the headings in here are pretty unimportant. Kinda like Barbie dolls for grown-ups.

This one doesn't bother me in the least. As far as my self esteem or whatever having a Barbie was suppose to screw up, I think I managed to maintain that and still have fun playing Barbies. Call me a prodigy, but even at the tender age of 8, when I received my first Barbie doll, I was keenly aware that it was a toy. I didn't expect nor did I desire to grow up and have legs up to my ears, a waist like a bug and feet that wouldn't straighten out. I was especially glad I didn't have the word Mattel carved on my butt. Barbie dolls are fun for little girls to play with because little girls generally like clothes, accessories, makeup and hair. Barbies are just another way for a child to use her imgination as she casts herself in various adult roles. Unless this is the way your mind tends to run, there is nothing evil about them.

I'm surprised they haven't come up with a fat Barbie to combat all the negativity about the doll having the perfect body and being a poor example for young girls. Or maybe they have and I'm just not up to speed on my Barbie news.

Many little girls have them, but only a few grow up to look like them. The ones who DO think that's the only thing they have to do in life - and the ones who DON'T sometimes spend a lot of time, energy and money trying. What a goal, and what a society that makes it a goal.

Alright, we all know Barbie is a scam. I mean they release the same doll every month with a new outfit or career and that's about it. We also know that Barbies can lead to unrealistic expectations and self-esteem issues. Well so can just about anything in the media/society these days. Honestly I grew up loving Barbies as did all my sisters and friends. Yes, it may be a scam but aren't most cheap, foreign-made toys? I don't see any reason to single out Barbie.

a 4.5. I had some when i was a child. So did my daughter. what i resent is the marketers put her in a new outfit and now they hope your little girl will beg you to buy her all over again. How many Barbie dolls can one have anyway. I only had one actual Barbie but i know girls who have a ton of them. Of course you also have to buy her family and she has a whole slew of little sisters. and don't forget her numerous friends. and then there's Ken. It can go on and on.
