In Florida, we have something called the FCAT, an education accountability test which is administered to kids in elementary and secondary public schools. I have no problem with this, but I believe that teachers shouldn't spend the entire school year teaching kids how to take a test. Teachers hate doing this because it doesn't allow the kids to maximize learning. Rather than learning in a methodical way, the kids are just learning test taking strategies, no purpose really. Teachers hate doing this because it is not an effective learning strategy. Te They have the right idea, but standardized testing should be more integrated into a standard curriculum and it should take into account the needs of different school districts.
