I find this ice cream to be a bit too sweet and too creamy. It's good in only small amounts. Yet they tend to pile it up like there's no tomorrow. They have a decent variety of toppings though and you can have it mixed in.

This looks like it is such good ice cream and that is the hype. I thought it was too sweet myself. I know it adds up all the calories with all of that too. The idea that you are supposed to be able to make your own ice cream is a bit too much for me. I think it's okay but it's not the best around. If I'm going to spend my money I would rather spend it on something else. There are even cheaper brands that I really like better. It certainly is an interesting looking concept. Sometimes it looks so good but I try to pass it by. I didn't see any of the singing involved.

I only ate at one once-- it was about 2 years ago, in Nyack, NY. I think the chain has a gimmick; the people preparing the ice cream have to sing or something idiotic...sort of like the people at "Macaroni Grill" who write their name on your paper tablecloth with a crayon before they take your order...and, since our group and our ice cream guy were the only people in the establishment, he asked us, "You don't mind if I dispense with the usual ritual, do you?" Which, of course, was fine with us. I'm always a bit uncomfortable with these gimmicks; they always strike me as being a bit humililating to the people forced to perform them-- if the ice cream is good (or the Italian food, or whatever), why not just serve it and forego the nonsense? As it turned out, I thought their ice cream was plentiful (maybe too plentiful) and good. Very sweet, but then my lifelong sweet tooth requires nothing less. Ultimately, the place in Nyack didn't seem to last very long, and I don't know for sure how well the chain is doing (or not doing) nationally. Still, the one time I had it, I thought it was pretty good. Not great, but certainly better than a lot of the chains I've eaten ice cream in.

$7.30 plus $0.44 Tax plus $1 Tip == $8.74 for a milkshake! ? It's a good shake, maybe the best, but I'm just not going to pay it. I can afford it (well into 6 fig sal) but it's a matter of conscience. I go for a good shake when I want to feel good. I simply can't feel good paying nine bucks for a milkshake. I'd rather give the money to the panhandler on the corner.

Coldstone is bad. The name comes from the practice of employees smoking weed in the freezer. Humor aside, the ice cream is overpriced. The idea of singing is stupid. I honestly don't know why you would mix sprinkled with your ice cream. They're a topping, they go on top. If you want something sweet, buy Mike's Hard Lemonade instead.
Gregthekid 11/06/2008
Well, I'm going to say with my review that you get what you pay for. Yes, the price may be a little higher than other places, but they do make their ice cream fresh everyday, which is something no other chain that I know of does. This really comes through in the flavor of their product, which is why I go there whenever I get a craving. YAY COLDSTONE!!

WOW, some of you people are so inconsiderate. If you cant taste the differnece in the ice cream you should lay of the drugs. or what ever is messing up your taste buds. srsly the idiot who couldnt taste the difference between the sweet cream and the chocolate. lay off the crack. some times it is a little waxy but whatever the taste is distinct. and wow all complain about the price. have you checked other prices around. the coldstone is cheaper than the baskin robins down here in wilsonville oregon. I have been told that the ice cream is made fresh daily. i went to baskin robins and they scooped my ice cream out of a cardboard bucket. it tasted like cardboard and it was freezer burnt. at least at cold stone you can get what you want and know its fresh.

The two staff members (one male and one female) were unfriendly. -Took a long time to be served. -While trying to place an order, the male employee walked away from the counter to do another task. -When mixing the ice-cream on the stone: it was not cleaned off in between flavors. My daughter, who is allergic to berries, received one in her ice-cream from my mix that was prepared. She was unable to eat it after taking one bite. She was taken home and medicated right away. My older daughter tried to get the staff members attention to remake one to take home. But we were not able to get his attention and we were in a hurry to get home. No serious outcomes occurred. She was more frightened and spat out the berry right away. -My ice-cream tasted freezer burnt, and was not packed nicely into its carton as normal. Showing poor workmanship and uncaring. -my eldest daughter threw hers out as well because it did not taste "right" she said. My main concern about this whole ordeal is that the stone slab was not cleaned off between orders as I have seen them do many times before. The ice-cream was not fresh and the service was poor. In general the store looked dirty. -We visit Cold Stone monthly at another location. It is always good, never had a problem. This one I complained about was along the way home and we wanted a special treat for the birthday girl, the one with the allergy. 1. Chocolate peanut butter perfection: small size 2. Half Coffee and Mocha with Oreos: small size 3. Raspberry Chocolate with Raspberries: Child Size

Ice cream ok, but don't buy a gift card. I got one for Christmas. When I went to use it, I was told the card had never been activated. Said they needed receipt to activate it. Since it was a gift - from a kid - not much chance of getting a receipt. So I paid cash. I complained later to customer service that card had a 16-digit code that should track payment easily but they wouldn't hear any of it. So my kid was cheated out of his $10 allowance by a corporate scrooge. Like I said, ice cream was ok, but I don't plan a return trip.

I have never had a bad experience at a Cold Stone. Good product, fair priced for what it is, and for an occasional indulgence in is great.

COLD STONE CREAMERY CHOCOLATE ICE CREAM MADE MY SON SICK!!! We've been eating Cold Stone Creamery ice cream for 2 years now. Three weeks ago my son got a kids creation with chocolate ice cream and a cookie crumb mix in. Later that night he got sick in bed and threw up the ice cream. We thought he had a stomach virus. Last night we went back to Cold Stone Creamery and my son got a kids creation with chocolate ice cream and a marshmallow mix in. Several hours later, during the night, he threw up the ice cream. Did they change the recipe? What's in the chocolate ice cream that's making my son sick? He never got sick on their ice cream before.

For those of you who currently work at Cold Stone or are thinking about working there allow me to give you the typical Cold Stone employee's life while working there: -Dancing around like a monkey -Singing stupid spin off tunes until at the end of your shift you just mouth the words even if you're the only one there. -Mixing crappy ice cream and trying to create the "ultimate experience" for the customer whatever that means. -Dealing with management that is all too happy to trample over you, because you can't say anything back to them. -Management is also keen to swear like a sailor despite repeated warnings to all employees to not swear. Yes, I'm talking to you Kay Britz, manager of the Olathe, KS store on 119th and Blackbob. -Realizing a month into your employement that you are constantly being backstabbed by your co-workers. -Finally walking out of the store when you've quit and that you realize a huge weight has just been lifted off of your back. If you like Cold Stone Creamery then you're probably better off being sterilized and not polluting the gene pool further.

They can literally make any concoction you want. The lines are pretty long, though and they normally have 2 or 3 max behind the counter and limited seating. Might be good for take out to enjoy at home or out on a park bench if you have the time.

I am a Cold Stone Creamery franchisee and thought I would respond to some of the comments that I have read. I have read alot of posts regarding the product being expensive. Cold Stone ice cream is super premium ice cream that is made fresh daily in the store. We bake our brownies fresh in the store and our waffle product is made fresh daily. The mix-ins are premium name brand candies, cookies and nuts. Due to the customization of the customers ice cream creations, more labor is also required than a ice cream shop that scoops ice cream from a card board bucket (for example Baskin Robbins). And you will most often find Cold Stones in premium locations (next to wonderful restaurants and movie theatres, etc.) which demand higher rents. There is also debt service, utilities, maintenance, taxes, insurance, etc. I am lucky enough to own a store in a great location, in a state with very mild winters and boiling hot summers. I am blessed to be profitable year round. Alot of ice cream stores in general, especially in areas with harsh winters, are only profitable 4 or 5 months of the year. It is a very seasonal business. All of these factors contribute to the price of the products. When people say "i could buy a gallon of ice cream for that price", I totally agree. You can also go to the market or get a $.99 burger from Wendy's or you can go to Red Robin and pay $8 for a burger and fries; you can buy your coffee at the gas station instead of going to starbucks or similar coffee & espresso restaurant, you can buy a steak at Denny's instead of going to ruth's chris steak house or Flemmings, you can buy pancakes at mc donalds instead of going to IHOP..... A Cold Stone restaurant is there to provide you with a convenient place to go and purchase fresh ice cream that you can customize and have exactly the way you want it. The experience is going to cost more than going to the grocery store for the reasons that I mentioned above. I realize that the price point of super premium ice cream concepts will turn some people away. And that is o.k. But there are TONS of people that love super premium ice cream concepts. Sometimes I can't believe how many people crowd into my store on the weekends! It is truly remarkable. For all of you that enjoy Cold Stone ice cream, I hope to see you in my store some day. (-:

Sorry, I can't justify spending 5 bucks for an ice cream cone, when I can get a half-gallon of quality ice cream at the store. To the employee below, if you are indeed what Cold Stone represents, then you have definitely kept me away

Also, they sing when they get a tip to make things interesting and original. As well as intertaining. It is part of the job. They HAVE to do it..

They just opened a Cold Stone Creamery in our moderate size Central Texas town... The first week they were out of chocolate, saying everyday, it will be here tomorrow!! Whatever... When they finally did get it in, we dropped by for one scoop....WHOAAAAA $3.24 for one little scoop of just plain chocolate, not mix-ins... I DON'T think so... our first and LAST trip!!!!

i've only been once, but i found the ice cream to be amazing. overpriced? maybe, but it's not like i was buying mayfield's. to me, it was better than regular ice cream, made well and with friendly service. i don't, however, know what this whole "singing the flintstones song" thing is about. nobody sang when i was there...
sarahda11 08/07/2007
Some of you people are seriously ridiculous! I work for Cold Stone and consider myself an expert so hear me out: If you want hard packed ice cream or simple, plain neopolitan, you should PROBABLY go to a grocery store. Also, you penny pinchers, getting ice cream should be an occasional family treat, that's right, TREAT. Splurge a little on your kids or friends. Don't want to? Probably should get grocery store ice cream. Also, just as a side note, if you think Cold Stone's portions are "stingy", you are a PIG. The Like-it size is 5 ounces of VERY RICH ice cream. If you are downing 12 ounces (aka a Gotta Have It) of sticky sweet Cake Batter, and calling US "greedy", you are a BIG FAT PIG!! HOWEVER. If you want REALLY high-quality, made everyday, super-premium ice cream: You should come to Cold Stone. Everything is delicious and completely custom made. Service with a smile and a delicious, fresh product? Yes, that is worth the money. It's a CREAMERY, people. Not a Baskin Robbins. Oh and P.S.? To make Cake Batter, you add one big bag of CAKE MIX (yes, what comes in the box at the stores, minus eggs and milk) and throw it in the machine with the Sweet Cream ice cream mix. That's why it tastes like CAKE. Wow. If you DON'T want to feel as though you are licking a bowl clean of real Cake Batter, have a sample, and DON'T GET IT. Cold Stone has never had a recall for any bacteria. Our cleanliness standards are through the roof. So whoever is reading this: TRY Cold Stone. Don't listen to these angry people with no lives who had one bad experience at one bad store. We have hundreds of stores nationwide. Try the ice cream, and you will like it. If you don't, blame it on a bad employee, bad owner, or bad experience. Don't chastise my franchise. THINK FOR YOURSELF!!
