Rome's show was refreshing at one time - mid '90s? Now just an annoying rehash of the same old : shtick. The callers used to make the show but they are pretty much barred from the show now.
irishgit 08/01/2008
Annoying speech patterns that drive me crazy on radio. Besides that, he's just one more of the virtually indistinguishable mass of sports shock jocks on the airwaves
samrs 08/01/2008
Wow wtt you played high school sports. You must be an amazing athlete.
bclaw 03/24/2008
so so hip, bull
skiboaty 10/10/2007
One of the worst personalities in radio. His "dead air" lasts longer than his interviews and he boosts his own ego by labeling callers as "clones." I think Jim Everett should be an in-studio guest sometime to finish this loser off once and for all.
wtt 08/31/2007
"Romey" 's show has funny moments, but he reminds me of a guy I went to high school with in massachusetts -- the kind who wants be in the Jock crowd, hang out with jocks--but wasn't an actual jock himself. I lettered in 3 sports in high school--and I knew guys like him, that just wanted to be your friend because you got some fame. OUT.
AlanLovesDevon 04/28/2007
This man has a terrible speaking style, not at all suited for radio.
GenghisTheHun 02/17/2007
I saw replays of the Jim Everett controversy at the time, and I reviewed in on YouTube. Rome absolutely had it coming, the smarmy mope. Except for the liability problems, Everett should have smacked him a couple times. That is how those smart-ass "journalists" may learn a lesson. Bad acts have consequences. It's a good thing that Rome was not interviewing, let's say, Andy Jackson or Aaron Burr. Those two knew how to get even.
Victor83 02/17/2007
I only enjoyed Rome's show one time...When jim Everett whipped his ***.
Ben999 02/17/2007
He seems intelligent but he knows NOTHING about sports. He only states the obvious, like "Allen Iverson is a good basketball player." Duh! that's why he plays in the NBA. He needs to think about going into a field other than sports
royale w/cheese 12/13/2006
Dear Jim: Of all the sports talk personalities, talk show hosts, sports related commentators, etc., that have ever been on the air, you are by far the least annoying, the most enjoyable to listen to, and whose opinions are the most reasoned and insightful. Sincerely, Dan Dierdorf, Joe Theisman, Michael Irvin, Randy Cross, Deion Sanders, Stephen A. Smith, Colin Cowherd, and Bill Walton.
Loerke 12/09/2006
Rome revolutionized sports talk. I hated sports radio programs, which tended to feature nothing but stupid jocks (Tom Tolbert excepted), until Rome appeared on the scene. He brought an evocative new lingo into the world. Those reviewers who claim that his listeners are idiots had better check their own brains. Name anyone in sports talk who is sharper or wittier than Rome. I can understand the critique of his interviewing style; I usually tune out because he does kiss butt during interviews (but who doesn't?). I can also understand if you don't dig his attitude, but don't call him stupid, because he's smarter than you.
H8Rome 12/05/2006
Rome makes me want to puke. Three hour show, half of which is in total silence. He won't talk about the games themselves, but the sensationalist hype surrounding them. He has made a career of catering to the world's dumbest sports fans (the clones), who apparently never get tired of Rome's constant bitching and whining. Go to hell Rome.
ToyDingo 08/20/2006
There is no getting used to Jim Rome. If you have an IQ above 95 his dead-water criticism and lukewarm jokes of anything he doesn't understand (such as the world of soccer) gets old very, very quickly. Jim Rome is a number cruncher, simple as that. He has no knowledge of anything outside the world of football, basketball, and a few other american sports. Avoid at all cost lest you lose too many braincells and become one of his "clones".
splinterdand 06/12/2006
Rome is not nearly as significant as he seems to think he is. Without his clones(70 to 90 IQ range), his stupid show wouldn't exist. Prime example: Immediately following a stupid interview with an idiot hockey player who doesn't have enough sense to put in a mouth piece he proceeded to diss the world cup and soccer in general. Doesn't he know that soccer fans don't listen to his crap? Give it up, Gnome. Only the metal-head clones (70 to 90 IQ range) are listening.
trebon1038 05/31/2006
I don't care for his tv show so much but I love his radio show. He really dogs the morons that email or call him. He has some great interviews as well. He takes some getting used to...he can be brash, but he says it how it is and I find his show enertaining.
CanadaSucks 05/31/2006
Kiss-ass jock-sniffer who tosses softball questions- the worst kind of poseur. . .pretends to be a renegade but is simply a follower. . .
Scotti4 05/31/2006
Anyone that bashes Romey obviously didnt give it the 2 weeks like he asks. Your not gonna get it right away.I can tell just from the reasoning. I have been listening for about 10 years now, everyday I catch at least an hour over lunch. He is very well informed about his guests and sports in general. If you dont like his humour you should learn how to laugh. He is the smartest funniest person on the radio period. Everyone else isnt in the same ball park....Out!
ThatCreepyLaug h 04/04/2006
To those of you who hate on Jim Rome: Who is better than him? Dan Patrick--that snoozefest?--I swear I almost pass out driving when listening to that guy. Mike & Mike--LMAOROFLWTF?? Tony Kornheiser--who needs 10 clowns in the studio with him to hold up his show?? Colin Cownerd--one of the more geeky radio hosts out there. The fact that he is the #1 syndicated sports radio host must mean he is doing something right. Jim Rome owns all.
johnnypuke 01/19/2006
I find him to be an annoying hipster wannabe. Tries desperatly to be cool to no avail.
UpstateNY12065 01/04/2006
This guy is a complete moron. He offers no insight and no humor whatsoever. Pure unadulterated stupidity. I grew up listening to WFAN in New York - now THAT is real sports radio. I can't believe he actually has an audience to justify his airtime. I have tried to listen to him on several occasions and usually end up switching the station within 5 minutes. Just plain terrible all around.
daedalus 12/12/2005
The Jungle is so much different than all the other tired sports stuff it makes this an easy pick. Rome and his clone followers have perfected a new language. The only thing that would make it better for me is if there were a few less interviews with athletes with nothing to say and more smack. There have been some really good interviews too like Steve Elkington, John Cook and Evil Knievel to name a few, but nothing is as good as listening to Rome go off. War Romey!
massah1571 10/05/2005
what can you say....the man says exactly what is on his mind....you have got to respect that!
RomeyOnT-1200 08/05/2005
Jim Rome is the best radio talk show out there, period. All you dorks saying he's immature and does the same old schtick don't listen to the show, or if you have, are too uptight and take yourselves waaaay too seriosuly. Interviews, calls, emails and takes are all great, Romey's da man. Would like to see Jay Mohr guest host the Jungle more often though, guy's just as, if not more funny than Rome.
sfbandit 08/04/2005
HUGE? No............... this........... show....... sucks. He get's good interviews, too bad he does NOTHING with them. Best time to tune in to the show is when someone else is hosting (right now it's Roger Lodge with Pete Rose -- GREAT show). Whoever wrote below that it takes a while to understand and that once you do - it's great (????) - obviously has the intellect of a crouton.
ron_e_g 02/02/2005
How does this guy still have a show. The same pathetic losers call every week for a childish essay contest where the host gives bland, one word responses. Hey, Jim, this R_A_D_I_O you moron. What is with the continuous Dead-Air!.
Alexg681 01/23/2005
Rome is an idiot. I can't stand him. Every time I see him I feel like smacking him. I love to see when Jim Everett smacked him. Rome is an annoying jackass who was just asking for it, and he's lucky Everett didn't deform his face.
JerrySWOH 11/05/2004
Simple formula, really. Make a joke about the topic of the day, repeat joke ad nauseum. Get a caller to ramble about his/her sports opinions quickly. Rack 'em if good. A simple, and very tiresome, formula for hearing basically the same thing every day. The interviews are about the only thing that make the show tolerable in any sense.
Philkid3 10/29/2004
You want someone who tells it like it is and isn't afraid of throwing punches, like Rome? Try Dan Patrick. Same thing with none of the childish, punkish attitude. And what's the deal with takes?
clearview 10/22/2004
I use to listen regularly, but quickly tired of his repetitive comments. I also find his format a distraction. Let's grow up Jim - the show has grown old with your unsophisticated groupies you call clones, your stupid have a take contests and interviews with has beens. How about some pure unadulterated sports talk without the sideshow circus acts.
drtaamc 09/28/2004
Very entertaining, it's too bad the main emphasis of his show is sports...not that I'm against sports it's just this guy is so funny, and he'd be great to hear skewering or shall I say giving his take on politics.
chrgrfndan 09/27/2004
One of the best shows on radio period. Most who don't like it just don't get it. It takes a while to figure out what he's doing but once you do you will be hooked.
Al Zeimers 09/03/2004
The best show on radio. Has educated takes, comedy, serious interviews. He gets all the top athletes/personalities in, and also mixes in the occasional author/actor/musician. If you don't like it, change the station!!!
widgeon 08/24/2004
Rome gets interviews that others only dream of and if you don't get the show lighten up Sally
wetterhorn 08/12/2004
All sophomoric schtick and no substance!
foamjack 08/04/2004
That interview was great.Im great. The more of me and less of you is great. F*#@ YOU!
amsurfer 06/16/2004
Emails are hilarious!

Since the death of good music (i.e., replaced by Britney, Justin, Gangsta Rap, and Kid Rock...ugh) as I know it, I have listened to sports talk radio almost exclusively since 1998. Sports talk radio shows come and go; but Jim Rome is the undisputed king. To be a great sports talk show, you need to balance hardcore X and Os, with what's going outside of sports, have callers (shows, like the awful Mike & Mike, rarley have callers), and have humor. Some shows, like the off the air Tony Kornheiser focused too much on non-sports things (like what the girl's on The View were wearing) that it got annoying. Jim Rome's The Jungle has it all. It's 3 hours of the best radio entertainment around. Rome's hilarious takes (punctuated by those dead air pauses), great interviews, and great callers has espoused a counter culture with its own language (called smack). If you know the significance of Why Dodgers' pitcher Odalis Perez is referred to as an Open Faced Roast Beef Sandwich, then you are a Clone (Rome's play on Rush Limbaugh's Ditto Head). My only knock on the show was that when I tried to call in to rant about Notre Dame football, they said my take was not good enough. Kornheiser, who hated Rome, also claims that Rome's writers write the takes that callers do; that might just be sour grapes.
MysteryMan? 05/25/2004
Love the long pause for................................................ ...............................no reason. Claa-sic.
Jemiculus 04/26/2004
Usually entertaining, though sometimes he has a tendency to dwell on the same joke way too long.
pipsicord 04/13/2004
You have to love sports to understand, PLUS, Rome is the most knowledgeable person I have ever listened to with respect to MOST sports. His knowledge is incredible.
