It was too bad he died so young and unexpectantly. I liked his work in some things. Three's company was okay the first year but I became tired of the show quickly and did not think it was that great. He seemed like a nice enough man had some talent. but should Not be up there with sainthood or the "greatest actor on earth" because he died.

What is the big deal here? I am sorry that he died before his time, but he and his shows were nothing special. I thought Three's Company was particularly awful.

I'll admit he was a nice guy who did some fine charity work, but he was hardly a brilliant actor. Those giving him five stars under the Classic Actors list prove that death can often propel a mediocre talent to an undeserved status of greatness.

I think John Ritter was a great actor. I really enjoyed Three's Company, an older show, and the new show 8 Simple Rules for Dating my Teenage Daughter. Its really sad, because he was seemingly healthy and always upbeat. I wish he was still here.

Like some others here, I'm a little perplexed about the huge importance the media gave to the passing of this man. Yes, he seemed like a really nice guy and its a shame his family lost him so unexpectedly. That said, he was (IMO) an average actor, below average comedian, had average looks, and overall, had a solid but very un-spectacular career. The only thing I can think that may have fueled the media fires is that here was a guy who did his most memorable work in a sitcom (albeit extremely sappy, childish) when he was an energetic young man in the prime of life. Due to his personality and the magic of re-runs, we continued to think of him as young when, in reality, he was pushing 60. So, when he died so suddenly it was as if a man half his age had died. That may have just served as a reality check to a lot of aging Baby Boomers who havent quite been able to come to grips with the changing reflection in the mirror. I know it has a little ring of truth in it for me at least.

I think John Ritter was an outstanding person and an effortlessly likable one as well. He was never an A-list celebrity but he always put everything he had into every role he played. I mean, there are those who I would otherwise consider to be cool people but who are unable to understand the sheer transcendental brilliance of Three's Company. But eventually the world will see the light and realize that John Ritter was perhaps one of the greatest people who ever lived.

(4=sacred cow material) The same with real life, I think that there's something about a famous person's death (while still in their youth) that makes them somehow magically perfect and without fault. This isn't just about John Ritter, it's about ANY actor/musician who died early; yeah, they might have been okay or even pretty good, but it's strange how they're seen as overly remarkable after their deaths. Death shouldn't automatically make a person great.

Seemed like a nice guy and an average to good actor.(See Slingblade) Unfortunately for his reputation he mostly did lame TV comedies. Can't blame a guy for trying to make a buck, however. Maybe those parts were all he was offered. I do agree that he seems to generate lots of RIA opinion.

Now THIS is a sacred cow that must die. John Ritter sucks. He sucked 10 years ago. He sucked in Problem Child. . .How long did ABC gravy-train his death for ratings?

Strange how death sometimes causes people to rethink their opinions of certain people. John Ritter was really a mediocre actor, but death apparently brought him lots of prestige.

This guy was a barely competent TV comic hack. Now, he's a dead barely competent TV comic hack. But say that or even something far milder on here and watch the unhelpful's pile in. This is probably the strongest evidence I've seen of the generally low average taste of the RIA community

I would have to agree that John Ritter is a sacred cow on RIA...it seems like everytime I leave a good comment or a review on him I get a slew of unhelpfuls...it is just totally ridiculous. The man was a great actor and does not deserve that much disrespect...

I liked John Ritter a lot. I thought he was very talented, and I enjoyed his work. Yeah I was shocked and saddned by his death, but I didn't know him, and he didn't know me. It was a tragedy. Those of us who liked him, wish it never did happen, but we know he's never coming back. For those who getting your knickers bunched up because some people actually did not like and do not miss John Ritter, I say- GET OVER IT. There are actors that you do not like and probably when they pass away you won't miss either.

This guy was admittedly attractive, but only a competent actor. But to hear some of the anguished eulogies on this site, you would think a comic with the combined genius of Richard Pryor and the Marx Brothers had been cut down in his prime.
