Well, in my opinion, all religion is just so much BS.

This is a hot item and if I can borrow the third person from IgnatiusJReilly for a second, even the sainted GenghisTheHun has been known to lay about with his cudgels on this subject.

This is for sure, just see all the helpfuls and non-helpfuls and they are the same. In any hot subject, there are always just as many helpfuls to un-helpfuls. As for me, I do not care whether this is sacred and Islam is a Satanic religion even though they claim to believe in God and claim to hate Satan. If they hate the devil, why are they acting like him, hating everyone and wanting to kill people. I don't hate people who are Islams, I just hate their beliefs. Nor will I show hostility towards them. Although I am aware that the hateful Islams are extremists and don't even go by Islamic values (and believe me, there are extreme Christians who make Christianity look bad), it is still a false religion. I'm not going to pussy foot around people, I'll call a spade a spade and if I think something is wrong, even if I get attacked for it, I'll call it wrong.

It's very unfair to say that every Muslim is a God-loving terrorist. Indeed, I've met friendly, devout Muslims overseas (Malaysia) who feel that they are being badly represented in world affairs by a fanatical minority who seem to hate other religions. There is definitely nothing wrong with being a Muslim, just that it is wrong to threaten to harm others unless they become Muslim.

I have nothing against Muslims. In fact, I've met many nice ones who were good warm-hearted people. As long as you are not forcing Islam on others, It is okay.

Especially given the times I think this would be a controversial topic in any venue. I never comment on it as I understand the emotion coming from both sides. I will say this, however... Islam could have no better defender than twinmom.

I would just like to say that no one is tired of you twinmom...and you are always welcome to leave tirades as most of these people that leave negative comments about Islam don't know anything about what they are talking about most of the time. There is no excuse for racism, religious bigotry or homophobia or any other type of behavior that is demeaning to other humans that is painful. I for one am very happy that you defend your religion. You are a very good person and you know exactly what you are talking about.

Thanks for adding this, Irishgit. I'm afraid in the course of my tenure here on RIA I've turned this into my own personal cow issue. Meaning I usually have a cow if someone says something negative. I'm not sure how I feel about this as I have been thrust into a role I've never taken on before. My whole life I have been in the majority- white, middle-class blonde haired girl from the Midwest. I always felt bad about discrimination but it never affected me directly until I married my muslim husband and 9-11 happened. Discrimination is a whole different ballgame when you become the target. It hurts. The problem with policing this site on the issue is that it is an emotionally charged one and has left me feeling like a tolerance-bully. One well-known rater on RIA who left a very negative comment about Islam explained to me that he was present in Beruit when the Marines barracks were attacked by Islamic fundamentalists and had to help haul out dead bodies. How could I blame him for having a negative opinion after going through an experience like that? What I'm getting at is that it is natural for Westerners to feel ambivilance towards Islam. Given recents events it is to be expected. But like most religions, cultures, or ethnic groups, there are good apples and bad apples. Islam just needs to do a better job tossing out the bad. And for anyone who has grown tired of my religion tirades, I'll try to relax. I never intended to become The Iron Fist Of Allah. It just happened.

Islam takes more undeserved shots than Dylan Thomas in a pub on Saint Patrick's Day. I dont' think this is much of a sacred cow- I hear (oops, I mean read) more ignorant bulls@#$ about this religion here than I care to admit. . .Folks, Islam is the God of Christianity and Judaism. . .It means Peace - Dudes who fly planes into buildings are not practitioners of Islam no matter what the blonde bubble-headed FOX news reporter tells you. . .

Or any religious topic for that matter. The helpful and unhelpful buttons are useful for one thing and its to determine whether or not people find the topic worthwhile enough to have an opinion over it. For instance, when I write about economic policy, no one ever leaves lots of unhelpfuls or helpful ratings. However when I leave a comment about religion I watch the Helpful and Unhelpful count go up exonentially. People have strong opinions about this kind of stuff; it's an emotional issue and people react to this strongly. I'm not overly religious; really my views are complex on the matter and they are colored by history and reality (that's for another topic) What I always say about Islam is that we shouldn't portray them as all evil; it was really a social and political movement in the Middle East like many others. When you allow jingoistic thinking to replace rational thought, you lose all sense of reality. Seems to me that there's little debate in this topic so I stay away from it in general. Most people don't want to debate it at any rate.

This is sort of the reverse of most of the others on this list. Say anything positive about this religion and the trolls come out from under their bridges and lay into you. By my count I have about nine one way tickets to Hell bought for me by stone headed Christian fundamentalists, together with complete navigating instructions on how to get there. On the other hand, if you choose to lambaste it with ignorance, depend on twinmom to show up like the Wrath of Allah. (P.S. She suggested this item.)
