 | BIGBABY (10) 05/11/2005 | The 2004 version of Dawn of the Dead has both its good points and bad points. The bottom line is that as a zombie movie, it is pretty bloody good. But as a remake of the original, I would have to rate it as terrible. In fact, almost nothing from the original was brought back into this movie. The setting, the mall, is the only similiarity. The biggest downside in this movie is that there is simply too many characters. So many different and diverse characters makes the movie a tad confusing for first time watchers. There is a total of 15 main characters locked inside the mall. The minutes leading up to the ending are pretty good, however the ending leaves to many questions. It appears that everyone is eventually killed, however, it is not certain. The good points of the movie is that there is a lot more gore and special effects, although anyone with a good computer can do that. Andy at his gun store is a decent way to have characters involved that aren't in the mall. Overall, this is an acceptable dead film, just don't call it a remake of the classic.
