I only heard Frampton's pre-recorded lps until recently. When I heard his live album, I was amazed how well he could play. He's definitely in my to 10 of all time.

Overrated, IMO.

There's a tendency on the part of many to think of Frampton as a "flash in the pan" because of what he did with a talk box on "Frampton Comes Alive". The recordings he's made since that time, although not particularly commercially successful, suggest more talent than many gave him credit for.

Peter is a really good guitarist. I really like how he makes the guitar talk.

Framton is another highly creative guitarist. If you turnrd on a classic rock station you will hear Frampton.
Limpin' Trenchfoot 11/13/2008
His first band Humble Pie peddled second rate pedestrian blues rock that was just a little bit sh*t although the guitar work was competant but hardly earth shattering. As for his talk box, that deserves minus 5 points alone, and probably can be blamed for Cher and her bl**dy vocoder. Im not saying he's a bad player just that he's done nothing to suggest he is among the greats.

Forget Live at Leeds. Frampton Comes Alive is the best live album of all time.

Peter Frampton is hands down the greatest guitar player ever. Why? Watch him play on his 1999 Live in Detroit DVD. This artist is a natural player that sounds just as good live as he does in studio. The only other guitar player that even comes close is Stevie Ray Vaughn. Jimi Hendrix could of been the greatest but couldn't beat his drug addiction and, because of drugs rarely sounded good live...

The guy makes his guitar talk, thats worth four stars right there.

I saw Peter play with with David Bowie and he is very under rated!
Moosekarloff 01/26/2006
Second-rate flash in the pan. Wouldn't even rate him in the top ten of his era. Saw him perform at the now-demolished Academy of Music in 1973. He was obnoxious. Humble Pie and Frampton's Camel? Not quite.

Comes after Hendrix

His pop-star persona not withstanding, Peter Frampton went from child prodigy to guitar sensation during the early years of the late, great Humble Pie. Listen to Frampton play tasty country/folk flavored acoustic leads and then turn out (along with co-hort Steve Marriot) molten hot blues/rock electric runs and you'll probably be asking yourself. "Who were these guys, and how come I've never heard of them?" That's just the way pop radio works in the good old U.S.A. folks. Go out and and get a copy of Best of 'Humble Pie (Early Years)', move on up through their later 'hits' release, and then pop in 'Frampton Comes Alive'. You'll see what I mean. Trust me friends. I wouldn't steer you wrong.

Do You Feel Like We Do? is about all that is needed to be said about Peter Frampton's guitar playing ability.

Very excellent guitar player, and masterful at the art of talking through the guitar via the talk box. Also awesome to see live. One of the greatist guitarists in history and should not be overlooked.
