Mobile, AL 5

Mobile, AL is definitely a city on the rise. It has great historic and southern charm. Industry seems to be flocking there compared to most other US cities (i.e. Thyssen Krupp Steel, EADs, and other large international companies). It is now a hub for Carnival Cruises, and has been so successful that a new ship which is approximately 40% larger than the previous ship is being brought in to handle all the passengers. There are artwalks and a farmers market downtown. The tallest building on the Gulf Coast between Tampa and Houston stands tall in Mobile. I currently live in Chicago and have my home on the market, the day my home sells is the day I move to Mobile.

This city has some real potential. It's a miniature version of New Orleans--Mobile even has a Mardis Gras celebration. The downtown area has a bunch of boarded up stores and several funky watering holes. In fact the only businesses open downtown are bars and clubs. This town could be party central if they wanted to be, but they seem to prefer the "sleepy feel."

Mobile, AL 2

One of the more pleasant and welcoming cities in the American South, though not terribly much to do. Rather humid, though Gulf currents make the weather a bit more bearable than comparable towns. Still a distressing amount of racism and general-purpose bigotry, and not a high value placed on education or opportunity. Generally courteous and hospitable folk, conditional for some on your color, dialect, or other such features.
