I never had a chance to see this show. Your rating plus a reading of the show at wikipedia makes me want to view at lease on episode. So... maybe a tivo/direct tv search or netflix this week.

Book of Daniel was a funny dramatic look at a complex contemporary family. I was delighted to see a relationship with Christ be front and centre in the title character's life. This was also a Christ who didn't judge but had expectations. He also had a sense of humor. Was the whole story and the set of characters PUSHED ? You bet. Were the situations believable? ABSOLUTELY! Would you find all these character's stories in one family? Perhaps not but thats what makes the drama and comedy work. That and the fact that at the core of this story is a loving and caring family seeking answers to life's challenges.

I'm so glad for Desparate Housewives because this show was crap. Not even close to 6 feet under on its worse day.

GREAT SHOW! PLEASE BRING IT BACK!

Pretty intriguing plot. Excellent cast. The only show to come along in ever so long that makes us feel like going to church.

Best new show on TV!!! Why on earth are they letting some ridiculous religion fanatics influence them into taking the show off t he air? My gosh, don;t these ridiculous people realize this is only TV> They cannot be very secure in their religion if they are threatened by a TV show - a GREAT TV show with GREAT acting and GREAT storelines!! Please bring it back. Please!!!!!

I LOVED THIS SHOW! We watched the remaining episodes on the web... I am so sorry to see it go. It was the best thing I've seen on TV in some time.

This is the best show. When is episode 8 going to be on?

This show was rockin! Are you really sure it was cancelled and not just on because of the olympics?
Aleta_live 02/14/2006
The people on this show really needed JESUS. Its too bad that christians think that he only walks and talks with people who call themselves "saved".
Bookofdanielfa n 02/12/2006
Loved the show. Cannot understand why the church fanatics found it so deplorable when at least it expressed faith and trust in Jesus Christ. It's no wonder I've moved away from organized religion. Funny, Christ was supposed to have been tolerant -- they are just the opposite.

How disappointing that NBC should kowtow to the holier-than-thou segment of the TV viewing public and cancel Daniel. I watched all 3 episodes - and liked it more each week. Just last night an acquaintance remarked, "Thank goodness NBC cancelled "The Book of Daniel!" "Are you kidding?" I asked. "I loved it! Did you even watch it?" "Well.....no. I just heard about it," was his lame response. I wonder how many others who complained so much about it gave it a chance. No wonder NBC is at the bottom of the ratings!
rnelso 02/04/2006
It is a shame that NBC has droped The Book of Daniel. It is so well written and acted. A look at a family with real problems and inportant issues and how they deal with them. It is so hard to find good programing in the reality show world we live in. I hope a network with some nerve will pick it up. The creaters and writers should be very proud of this great show. It does seam that the only place to find good thought provoking programing is on HBO or Showtime.
badboydean 02/02/2006
Somehow it seems to be ok to see violence and murder on network TV. God knows, let's not perceive that Jesus might have a sence of humor. Again, in a new century the moral majority is dictating what our perceptions should be. No matter how bold anyone thought this series was it could never have come from as dirty of hands as Baker, Swaggert, Robertson and all the other money making bastards that try to control what we think and watch through making us feel guilty and accountable to them. Thanks Mr Quinn. You made us think.
karatop 01/31/2006
I was really disappointed to see that NBC has no back bone and gave into the powers that be and canceled "The Book of Daniel'. This was a very well written and acted program. I found it entertaining, enjoyable to watch and loved all the characters. I just hope that another cable channel (one with some gonads) will pick up this program and let us non-offended folks have a little pleasing entertainment.

Excellent Excellent show. What a tragedy it was dropped.
preacherkid 01/31/2006
A comic sense of reality like Howei Mandel's Sincerity Mortuary. It brought back a lot of memories of what family life is really like in a parsonage. Even the brother-in-law scenerio is an amalgum of 2 pastors I'm familiar with.
jameyfrank 01/30/2006
What a refreshing show, with *interesting* characters. NBC is a coward for pulling something that "offended" the far right. Isn't the media supposed to be about free speech? NBC's ratings suck, because their shows suck...and now the one good show is gone thanks to the reactionary paranoia.
joanne bain 01/29/2006
I am really sad that the Book of Daniel has been cancelled. It was new, refreshing, and non-violent. I always supposed that Daniel was talking to his own conscience and thus wasn't the least perturbed that this conscience was dressed as something a man of faith may understandably envisage, i.e., as Jesus. So why don't the people who objected to 'Daniel' also object to other shows on TV; crime after crime show depicting people (mostly women) brutally murdered, tortured and raped; children abused and kidnapped; street gangs and punks killing each other, etc. These shows seem to generate no criticism or objection at all, let alone get pulled by their networks.
witsend47 01/29/2006
What a delightful and encouraging portrayal of family life today...it's so refreshing to see a seemingly well educated, clean-cut, decent family dealing with the difficult issues we face in today's society. I find it disturbing that the network would abandon this show, when it continues to air shows about total morons, low-lifes, and brutal murders night after night. Entertainment on commercial TV seems to cater mostly to the lowest common denominator in our society. There is precious little for those of us seeking quality programs to watch. The Book of Daniel was such a program and shame on NBC for taking it off.
Free Thinker 01/29/2006
It's a shame that NBC let a small percentage of its viewers dictate what is seen on their station. They took an excellent, well written show, that brings forth many social issues, with a touch of the biblical side. What NBC did is no different than how radical Muslims control the media in middle eastern countries. Shame on NBC for going along with this. Hopefully, another station, a cable, or PBS station will pick it up, and hopefully the independent media will cover the story when it happens so many of us can enjoy the rest of the series. Damn Pissed in Dallas
brewster 01/28/2006
Shame on you for cancelling this show. It was a bright spot in the weekly tv programing. It was the only reason that I tuned in on friday night.
Lightwell 01/27/2006
I would not have known about the Book of Daniel had not the Christians been out there braying like Balaams 'talking mule'. I liked it... not great ...but was good and an earlier comment about folks seeing Christians dealing with everyday life through faith was accurate. I am watching you Christians to keep me apprised of the good stuff... I know I can count on you:))

My wife is a school teacher and I am a social worker and both of us got the satire of the Book of Daniel on NBC. We thought your message came through loud and clear about Daniel's struggles with real life situations. It has always been a well known situations that the minister's kids were always the wildest kids in the community and The Book of Daniel has brought this out in the open. It bothers me that the conservative right wingers continue to dictate to us what is their agenda, but they fail to remember that we all have rights guaranteed by the Constitution. My wife and I are sad to see one of the most entertaining shows on television's Friday night line up is being cancelled. I hope that the network will rethink their decision to cancel this. I don't know what these conservatives are doing in condemning the very types of things that actually happen in the church, all denominations regularly. If they are seeking truth, let them enjoy it depicted in a comical way (satire) a laugh with the rest of us. Your cast was excellent and I for one was anxious to get home on Friday nights to have dinner out of the way to enjoy the show. We only saw about 2 or 3 episodes.
jammerslove toyou 01/27/2006
I rate this as a four star because I haven't got to see the show but one time. I would like the oportunity to se more. I liked what I did see.I think some people need to be out in the real world to see what it is like to be a modern day Christian and live in the world today. Going to church does not make you a Christian like being in a garadge does not make you a car. Make a decision, do you love Christ and want to follow him no matter what. Life is ugly, this show is real. What would Jesus do in these days, read the Bible and figure it out. He would not be quick to judge others because the ultimate judge is compasionate and loving. Are you?
Ame 01/27/2006
Soooooooo disappointed that Book of Daniel was dropped by NBC.This was the first show in a long while that was different, interesting and edgy-what a damn shame. So sick of the other reality TV shows.
ARB 01/27/2006
I have just learned that The Book Of Daniel will not air tonight...and I am offended! I began watching it when the first episode was pre-empted and wanted to know what all the hoopla was about. I found it to be well written, acted, and entertaining. I did not find the show to be offensive at all. As a matter of fact, I believe it was quite refreshing to actually see a Christian family dealing with their problems through Faith. I do find Deadwood to be VERY offensive and I refuse to watch such trash myself...and yet, I believe that show has won awards! If this show was put on cable it would be a smash hit!

Was looking forward to seeing it tonight, but just found out it was cancelled. Too bad, but maybe HBO will pick it up.
Lorrix 01/26/2006
I heard today that this show was cancelled, and I'm really disappointed. This show was creative, fresh, and real. Apparently this was too difficult for some folks to take, and apparently they were incapable of figuring out how to change the channel on their tv, like I do when I find something I don't enjoy or agree with. I've really looked forward to watching this the few weeks it aired, and I'm really disappointed that the network weenied out and pulled it before giving it a proper chance. Wankers. :(

Acceptance of a person and acceptance of a sin are two different things. We, as Christian, are called to love… yes, that is Jesus, Jesus is love. For all of you on this thread, we are all sinners. But to accept the sin is not alright and tolerable. Accepting sin is turning your back on the one who died to save you from that sin. As you claim that Jesus is Lord, as you REPENT from your sins, you are bless with his Holy Spirit. Repentance is to turn your back on sin and not accept it any more. Will sin in general still be a part of your life? Yes, we are human, sin is our curse… but the more you push it away the closer you become to Jesus who is ultimate love. We are to work at identifying our sin, and working to get ride of it… humbling ourselves to the fact that we cannot do it on our own. It is too hard. Jesus is the only one who can take it from us and even then most of the time it is not immediate… it is work, a path that we walk. Do you overcome sin, or does sin overcome you? Whether your sin be lust, slander, murder, homosexuality, masturbation, pornography, disrespect… or whatever… Jesus does not want us to submit to it or accept it. Accept the person, yes, accept the sin, no. And out of love, we are to work together to help each other overcome what tears us down, what has made our society rotten and judgmental on every level...
PetersGayCousi n 01/24/2006
I am deeply saddened that a show of such caliber has been determined 'unfit' by an ironically judgmental right-wing movement. The Book of Daniel was/is a wonderful depiction of the normal, everyday, dis-functional and problematic western family. Yes some of the issues addressed are more colorful than most of us experience, but is that not called dramatic license? This is fictional entertainment after all! Days like today inspire me to express thanks to Jesus, yet again, that I am residing in a blessed and open-minded country such as Canada. In closing, I urge the producers of this show to please find another network and/or country to allow this show to express itself. If not please produce a direct-to-dvd mini-series. Thank you for listening.
suppastarr 01/24/2006
this show does not portray Jesus correctly.
pflugmacher 01/23/2006
I have two comments neither of which I have come across: (strangely enough...nothing to do with gays, vicodin, etc.) 1. What's with the mansion and the maid? THIS is a minister, folks. 2. The bishop has at least a 2,000 dollar yearly beauty salon bill. And, she's been married twice.
skiesinhereyes 01/23/2006
First of all, I do not agree that God is a hateful and unforgiving force. I think that people tend to forget the most important point that the Bible conveys-Love! God is a loving and caring and forgiving God and so is his only son, Jesus. This is the most important lesson that I think most people have forgotten. God is not something to be worshipped because you fear his wraith. He should be worshipped because of the love and wonder that He has brought into your life. Secondly, leave the judgements to the Almighty! It isn't our place to bring others under scrutiny and judge them. That is God's job, remember!?! If we are to judge others then we should be prepared to fall under the same judgement. This show is a brave and incredibly wonderful step in the direction that society, and especially us Christians, need to go. Love and acceptance is the key to living a better life and living closer to God (in my opinion). The diverse and colorful characters are elements from everyday life that need to be embraced and I applaud the show for it's tastefulness. The character of Jesus is exactly how I had always pictured Him to be. Jesus was a man and He was human even though He was the Son of God. What did we expect Jesus to do when those who follow him are faced with sin? Is he suppose to strike you down and damn you on the spot? I don't think so. I believe that God and Jesus allow people to face their own demons and chose which direction they would go. Of course they will offer up advice but I think they want us to chose the righteous path on our own accord, not because they scared into it. So, I applaud the show and give it the highest rating possible. Oh, and it isn't the networks job to tell us "free" citizens what we can or should watch.
Kohlee03 01/23/2006
I love how accurately it portrays Jesus, and the unconditional love he has for everyone. Jesus says in John 3:16-17 says: For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him. And Jesus tells us not to judge, in Matthew 7:1-3 "Stop judging, so that you won't be judged For with the judgment you use, you will be judged. And with the measure you use, you will be measured. "Why do you see the speck in your brother's eye but fail to notice the beam in your own eye? Finally someone has the balls to make a show not only about Jesus but with the true personality that he has in the four gospels, the personality that his church has rejected.

I love this program. The local NBC affiliate in Nashville has dropped it, but fortunately I can pick up the NBC station in Huntsville. Nice of Nashville to decide what I get to see..they probably are suspect in how they present the news also. Hope the "fundies" mind their own business and if they don't like it are smart enough to know how to change their TV set and leave mine alone! No I don't think the program is "model" behavior for a family..however, this is not a documentary it is a TV series and is for entertainment..just like the soaps that I'm sure many of the "fundie" housewives watch every day.

Stupid...offensive. What was NBC thinking ? Are they that much out of contact with reality!!!
kjg 01/23/2006
I am still thinking about last Friday's episode. The relationships are starting to evolve and I am hooked. The scene with Daniel and Adam was brilliant. As a parent I could completely relate to the tension over behavior and still how the deep, deep love for a child is so powerful. I watched this with my daughter and we had a wonderful conversation later on. Perhaps the organization members that are so against the show, and have never seen it, should consider that some of us use different elements found in popular culture as ways to connect with our children. Sure, parts of the show are over-the-top, but it is a TV show, right?
forktree 01/23/2006
Some people say this show is funny but I don't see anything funny about a preacher(so called) taking the Lord's name in vain very funny at all. In fact I would be scared to say it. That is what is wrong with our nation a lot of people are not scared of God anymore which is a sign of the end time. You also have your anything goes churches out there where anything goes as long as you are putting money in the church. This is just the way it is suspose to be before Jesus comes back to get his people. People make the choice to go to heaven or hell. God doe's not send anyone to hell we make that choice. As far as this show it's not going to last unless nbc wants to just keep losing millions of dollars. Why don't they come back with something like Little House on the Prairie. Well they would have him taking God's name in vain to. May the real God be with us all.
godislife316 01/22/2006
For anyone who actually reads the Bible, the very word of God, this show is abhorable. When you watch the show, ask yourself if it is dealing with the issues in a Christian way or is it preaching acceptance and tolerance instead of love. Love does not mean tolerance. There is an end and there is judgement. Romans 2:4 "Don't you realize how kind, tolerant, and patient God is with you? Or don't you care? Can't you see how kind he has been in giving you time to turn from your sin? But no, you won't listen. SO you are storing up terrible punishment for yourself because of your stubbornness in refusing to turn from your sin. For there is going to come a day of judgement when GOd, the just judge of all the world, will judge all people according to what they have done. He will give eternal life to theose who persist in doing what is good, seeking after the glory and honour and immortality that God offers. But he will pour out his anger and wrath on those who live for themselves, who refuse to obey the truth and practice evil deeds. There will be trouble and calamity for everyone who keeps on sinning -- for the Jew first and also for the Gentile. But there will be glory and honour and peace from God for all who do good -- for the Jew first and also for the Gentile. For God does not share favourtism.... The day will surely come when God, by Jesus Christ, will judge everyone's secret life. This is my message"[!]. SO if God will judge sinners for their sins, what of those who encourage these sins. WHat of those who promote them? Are you as such? Like a pimp or a drug dealer recruiting new addicts/victims at an elementary. God will judge each man's work impartialy but Jesus warned that it would be better to have a millstone (a very heavy stone) tied around your neck as you were tossed in the sea then to turn his little ones to evil. My friends or my enemies, are we not all children of God. When did your parents no longer consider you their precious child? DO not be deceived, as Christians we are representative, ambassadors of Christ here on earth. He does not need our approval and he absolutely does not want us to lead others to sin. TOday is the day of salvation and I am here to save souls not permit sin that leads to death. The message and massage of our culture has become "Love the sinner and you must love the sin" I am intolerant! And so is God; God hates sin. He is a jealous God and hates anything that separates him from us. So say what you wish, grope blindly in a world blinded by our media as we pretend it has no effect. This show is a mockery of faith in Jesus and its creators will be called to account as will I and you. "If anyone does not love the Lord, that person is cursed. Our Lord, come! May the grace of the Lord Jesus be with you. My love to all of you in Christ Jesus. (Paul, 1 Corinthians 16: 22-24)

The freshest series on the TV scene today. Pray that the extremists don't crucify it to death.

Some people say this show is funny but I don't see anything funny about a preacher ( so called) taking the Lord's name in vain. I am not a preacher and would be scared to say it. This is a sign of the end times when people are no longer scared of God. No no one is perfect we all fall short but you suspose to strive to be. These show do's nothing but confuse people to where they think its alright to do anything. May God be with us.

I give it two stars only because Ellen B. can act and she is good in everything she does, especially in "Requiem For A Dream." But, with that said this isn't Requiem and it isn't good writing. I don't float on either side of the "religious situation" embedded with almost every conversion about the show. I watch film and TV for entertainment and this is quite lacking. I am about as entertained as I would be if I were to watch "Footloose" for the 10th time. This show is the equilvilant of the TV version of adult Attention Deficit Disorder--too much, too ridiculous; oh and no suspension of disbelief. Yes, I know that there are people out there who resemble the show's characters, but the show relys upon these character's ecentricities to write storylines instead storylines supported by it's characters. Think about it...say you are a man who likes to wear women's panties. Does this define your life, your daily dramas, your story? Would your life be so thin that the only stories you have are base around you in your panties and other little quirks you have. Geez, I hope not. TV writers should have more respect for our intelligence. I like gummy bear icecream, and I like horseraddish on my hamburger, and I like pickles on a PBJ sandwich so why not mix em all up in a blender and call it dinner, or better yet, "Book of Daniel."
G W Turner 01/21/2006
The show, simply put, is fun to watch. A couple coping with raising their three children and yet grieving over the one they lost. Add to the mix, Daniel dealing with his mother's Alzheimer's disease, church politics and just about anything else that you think you would not encounter, he does. And he handles it well. He has Jesus to help guide his way. This is television at it's best. I would hate to see it axed. I should mention that Friday night is Daniel and his Wife's night. They have sex no matter what happens.Got to hand it to them!
candicemc 01/20/2006
The show is good and people should really check it out before they jump on the holier than thou bandwagon.
