A little cliche, but it was made famous in Jarhead circles when uttered with a few choice curse words (latter denied) by two time Medal of Honor recipient Sgt Maj Dan Daly during World War 1.

Don't want to rain on any jarhead parades, but versions of this phrase can be read in Norse saga poetry dating from the ninth century. Of course, the correlation is not entirely surprising.
