For my money,Mary Wells beats all the other Motown Divas hands down.She wrote or co-wrote (often with Smokey Robinson) a lot of her own material.She had a great voice,but died painfully and tragically obscured by lesser talent.

I'm serton Mary had the talent, but for other reasons, not enough material and/or promotional backing (from Motown) to compile the work volume needed for a more robust recording career.
