Moby Grape was a supremely talented band that got chewed up by the hype and hoopla of their record company. Their best album and for my money, one of the greatest rock albums ever recorded, was their '69 album. It was released after their fall from grace and received little attention. The album featured hard rocking numbers, country ballads and culminated with the departed Skip Spence song "Seeing" which chronicled the songwriters descent into madness but also seemed to represent the bands' own disillusion, possibly even the unraveling 60's itself. Heartbreaking, disturbing lyrics, soaring vocals and incredible cross-talk guitar licks...simply put an outstanding song that still gets to me.
Hats off to the best album never heard and the greatest band that should have been.

The "GRAPE" should've been a household name. Whoa, did they get SCREWED by Columbia Records! The best band to come out of California EVER.

Awesome, multi-talented band who put out a superb debut album, and whose subsequent work is a LOT better than many people think. Great singers, songwriters, and lyricists. Suffered more bad luck than any band I can think of, and should have been huge. One of the great American bands of their era. Have no shot at getting in, but probably the greatest of the San Francisco acts at their peak.

Please get these guys in there. Almost as good as Buffalo Springfield, though they had a different flair. Great and absolutely essential band.
