Tailgators are some of the most dangerous of all drivers, but - as traffic officers don't seem to care about it - this reckless and terroristic behavior will continue to be the norm in most of the USA.

People that tailgate are in a real hurry to get nowhere. They just don't like being behind someone else, and the first opportunity they get they pass, then they slow down, all because of impatience.

I will say tailgaters are annoying, BUT, be warned..If you slam on your breaks to get them off of your tail and that person swerves to avoid hitting you and ends up rolling over, hitting another car, etc. YOU will be liable and can/will be charged even if your cars never collided. We all need to stay calm out here, people. Please don't caught up in playing games with others if they tailgate you.

Hate that! Especially the ones in the huge trucks and SUVs. They think that somehow the high center of gravity on their vehicle entitles them to push others around. Had one such dolt rubber neck while tailgating and crash into the back of my car. Totalled my car, injured my husband, myself and my kids (though not badly). The guy is lucky to be alive (not because of the car accident, either).

i will slow down to a crawl if you tailgate me. i have pissed some people off but i don't care. i'd rather you hit me doing 5 mph then 45 mph. thats not the real reason i just like to piss them off.

YES finally some one who hates tail gaters

This happens much too often here, and more people keep dying because of it. When are people going to learn to respect each other on the road? Selfish driving is so bad here.

I don't see it so much as a pet peeve, as I see it as blatant disregard for driver saftey and courtesy. It's dangerous, not JUST annoying which is why I dislike the behavior so much.

Another issue of mine with Texan drivers. Hint: If you can see my middle finger, you're too close!

Definately a pet peeve! One of these days I'm going to hit the brakes. This is not a case of someone not realizing what they do. These guys (or gals) know exactly what they are doing when they tailgate. The ultimate in rudeness.

Never saw the point in it, other than letting the other person know that you're pissed at them. I've had that done to me a couple of times (I'm usually a very good driver) but there have been occasions that I pulled out in front of someone a little too late, and they start tailing me. I say to myself sorry about that, my mistake but they still follow me for miles. It's almost as if they are ASKING for a fight. Sometimes I just want to slam on the brakes and see what he thinks of that.

In N.J.,they tailgate you at over 65 MPH-Illegal- and I have yet to see the police there do anything about it.

Nothing a quick tug on the emergency brake can't cure.
OrangeCharlie 01/28/2005
These people annoy me like all heck but I have to admit that I am one of them. I tailgate but don't intentionally do it.
CastleBee 01/28/2005
I firmly believe that there should be some way to hook these people up with those scam artists who deliberately cause other people to hit them just to sue them. A more poetic match has not been made!
