 | texasyankee (22) 05/17/2005 | My mom used to make a rhubarb-peach custard pie. That was about the only way I've had it, that I can handle rhubarb. The strawberry version sounds pretty good too.

 | EschewObfuscation (71) 05/17/2005 | A couple of Saturdays ago, my daughter (24) asked me if I would go to a Farmer's Market with her. Of course, I said yes. OK, she says, let's try and get there by 6:30. (AM!!!!???) On a Saturday. We got there about 7:05, she had trouble getting up. We walked and bought fruits, vegetables and flowers, made two trips to the car and returned and wound up at a stand that sells fresh baked goods. I looked at the pies and said, nostalgically, Hmm, strawberry-rhubarb pie. She said, Is that any good? I said, It's my favorite pie. I haven't had it in 20 years. She bought it and tried a small piece when we got home. Needless to say, I wound up eating the entire pie, one piece a day for a week. And nobody I tell the story to has ever heard of strawberry-rhubarb pie.

 | rainer21 (0) 08/08/2004 | Rhubarb is an acquired taste, and one that you either love or hate. My grandparents grew fresh rhubarb in their garden, and I remember coming home with bags full of them. They aren't meant to be eaten by themselves, but are perfect for baking and desserts. The soft, warm texture and unique flavor in a rhubarb cake or pie is delicious, especially with strawberries.
