This is disgusting. It wouldn't take much effort for a person to take their gum out of their mouth and throw it away before they went into the restaurant, or wrap it in a napkin or the wrapper it came in. It just isn't that hard. But some people really don't know how to be polite. A lot of the time I think it's the way they were raised, with an "I don't care" attitude.

A few years back I had my employees deposit all the gum they had chewed in the course of a month into a plastic tub. At the end of the month, I had my secretary squish all the gum together and shape it into a ball, which I donated personally to a local elementary school's Physical Education department. I visited the school just recently and the ball has grown in size markedly; kids play catch with it.

Even worse if it's on top of the chair. I sat in somebody's warm chewing gum at a ballgame a few weeks ago, and it was no fun being in public, trying to get something gross off the back of my black shorts. The chewer could have disposed of it properly in two seconds. Instead, it became a big yucky mess to scrape up. Littering stinks, especially when it involves sticking others with random wads of chewed up gum.

It's an absolutely disgusting habit. Our school desks are a mess, and it's all because people couldn't walk two feet to the garbage can.

Definitely, I really feel bad for the people who have to take the gum off of the seats later on.

I once ruined a favorite jacket because of an idiot who did this. :(

What a great idea. I usually just swallow it.

Dudn't matter. I don't eat in restaurants anyway. My restaurant is my apartment or @ my girlfriend's place.

Well, I generally don't put my hands under the seats of chairs in restaurants but it's still disgusting.

Yeah, I guess sticking the gum under a chair in a restaurant is pretty low class. But I'd be less than honest if I didn't also add that one of the great memories of my childhood was looking under the counter at the local candy store where'd I'd get my fountain cokes.... and there was gum stuck under that counter that had to go back to before World War 2. If by some chance I managed to chisel off a piece, there was usually an older piece underneath the piece that I chiseled off. I'll bet that counter weighs 30 pounds more than when it was installed. If I ever go back to Eastchester, NY to visit friends I have to make sure to look under the counter at the candy store at the corner of Post Road and Brook Street and see if I can still find that big piece of Bazooka I stuck under there back in 1962.

This is just nasty. These are the people who grow up to leave used Pampers in parking lots and spit on sidewalks. Shows a total lack of concern for other people.

Come on, is throwing your gum away so difficult? Especially under school desks and tables, people seem to be incapable of getting up, walking 15 feet over to the trashcan, and throwing their gum away, and instead they choose to stick it underneath their table where someone can easily lift their legs up and get gum all over their jeans. Idiots!
