I think people who specialize in vandalizing mailboxes ought to make a career change and specialize in looking for a job. It really does prove that an individual doesn't have a life if this is all they have to do with their time.

We had a problem with this for a while in our neighborhood, it was very frustrating. I don't understand the thrill involved. I ended up buying a hard plastic mailbox, now when they knock it off at least I can put it back on. I thought about having a box made out of iron that would break their bat when they hit it.

When my mom lived in Apple Valley, California, with her late husband Dave, just off Hwy 18, which is a consistantly busy and fast moving highway, there was for a time, in the early nineties a problem with teens running over roadside mailboxes. Dave was one of those guys that could do it all, a jack of all trades. He put together a mailbox to end all mailboxes, he welded together a 6 X 6 steel post and made it look like a typical mailbox. This mailbox would have stopped a tank. He would sit back everyday and wait for someone to hit it. He died before he got to see his dream come true.

I've had to replace my mailbox twice in a year. If I ever find the punks who destroyed my other two....I'm going to slap a hefty debt on them. It wasn't even just mine...it was my whole street.

My mailbox is hanging by a thread as I speak. Someone hit it (whether intentional or not) and I live on the side of a busy 3 lane highway, so it makes me nervous trying to fix it.

This reminded me of the movie Dazed and Confused. When I lived with my parents long ago, our mailbox was destroyed about 25 times. Most of those drive-by vandals grabbed someone else's garbage cans and slammed it on our mailbox and drove away. Amazing.

Well, mine is made of solid brick, so good luck with that. BUT, I've seen it done to my grandmothers, and as far as I know, she did nothing to deserve it. I mean, she always paid her bills on time. Doing it to some old lady is just plain wrong.

I never got this. I mean; if you're going to go to the trouble to get a ball bat, round up all your idiot friends, pile into a pickup and put that much physical effort into it - wouldn't you at least want to see the look on the person's face when they discover it? Truly a pastime for idiots.
