 | Major of the ROTC (1) 02/01/2005 | These elections are probably the greatest of things that have come to this scarred land. As well as this, the Bush candidacy is probably more well off with this event than when it started. I think these elections are creating another advancement up the metaphorical ladder that is democracy for the Middle East. Hopefully, a prominent leader can arise from the masses and delegate his tasks righteously enough to battle the terrorists who threaten these lands.

 | LanceRoxas (40) 01/31/2005 | The essence of the Bush Doctrine is to topple- through various means- tyrannical states, particularly those that harbor terrorist or support terrorism, and prop up democracies in their place. Afghanistan was the first nation where we successfully did so and these elections are another positive step in that direction. With the consecutive transitions of power the entrenchment of democratic institutions in Iraq can, and hopefully will, grow into a thriving free nation. As the Iraqi security forces are trained an gain experience they will assist in reducing the terrorist threat at home and subsequently reduce the threat of terrorism in the region.

 | Skizero (13) 01/31/2005 | considering Iraq had nothing to do with the war on terror, i don't think so. A huge success for Bushy and his daddy.

 | EschewObfuscation (61) 01/31/2005 | I would characterize it as an early, minor battle in the War on Terror, a battle which has been won, even if the country deteriorates into civil war. The blueprint has been established and American efforts to establish a democracy on very un-fertile ground have been successful. If it fails now it will be because the Iraqi people do not have the will to make it happen. They need only look at Afghanistan as their model.
