 | irishgit (138) 04/24/2008 | I know when you go into most music stores it's called classical but that encompasses a huge range of musical types. The music of composers like Purcell, Mozart, Chopin, Strauss, and Stravinsky are completely different.
A Baroque etude and a Polonaise are no more alike than Rap and Bluegrass.

 | Limpin' Trenchfoot (16) 12/06/2006 | If 'classical' by definition covers the period 1750 -1820 ish then I'm not that much of a fan. I appreciate the great composers talent but in general their music doesn't touch me. I prefer some of the works by more modern composers like Stravinsky, Sibelius, Vaughan Williams, Barber, Gustav Holst etc. Dont like all that discordant stuff though

 | Djahuti (54) 11/12/2006 | It doesn't do much for me,to be honest.Sometimes I like a piece, but generally it has little or no percussion and leaves me cold.I associate it with Looney Tunes background music,anyway....If I like any single composer it'd probably be Bach, although I have a 4 CD set that ranges from the very early composers (Dufay,Machat,Gabrieli, etc. & Baroque through Classical,Late Classical,& Romantic on up to 20th century & Opera-I'd have to say out of that I liked the earliest stuff the best.Opera is the one I really can't take.

 | LastMessenger3 (40) 08/03/2006 | Timeless and ageless. It's a mother to all music genres today so to speak. Before jazz, before pop, before hip-hop, there was classical music - inspirational, emotional, beautiful.

 | CastleBee (81) 03/29/2005 | For pure magnificence, grandeur and beauty it doesn't get any better than the legacies of the classic composers. This music has not only survived the ages, but in the same way beautiful paintings do, it tells us more about history and the people who have gone before us than any history book of facts ever could.

 | CanadaSucks (45) 03/22/2005 | Beethoven's choral in the 9th symphony is the best music ever, period. But I can't say that classical music dominates my collection or tastes.

 | MissPackRat4Jesus (38) 08/18/2004 | It's kind of enjoyable sometimes to sit back and listen to most classical music -- that is, the instrumental classical music in which the emphasis is placed on the orchestrations. Claire de Lune is among one of my favorite pieces. I do draw the line at opera, though.

 | arete1952 (1) 05/02/2004 | hmmmm....numerous technical problems on this page...as Enkidu points out, classical is a specific period in what is properly referred to as Western Art music. Sonata and fugue are forms while symphony and concerto are genres....all that aside, Western Art music (classical according to this page) is the greatest music in the history of this planet.

 | Enkidu (37) 04/05/2004 | Properly speaking, classical refers to the international style period from about 1750 to around 1810 or 1820, the period of Mozart and Haydn and early Beethoven (up to about opus 30), the time during which music from different countries is stylistically most similar. It's hard for me to comment objectively on something I have studied for more than thirty years, except to state that it is a mountain range with peaks and valleys that continue to defy thorough exploration, and where I find reliable peace and sanity every time I listen. I simply cannot imagine my life without this music as a major part.
