Pearl Harbor was the highlight of my trip to Oahu. Some of the out of the way beaches were pretty and I especially liked watching the surfers. I just thought the heart of Oahu was very touristy and crowded and I was glad we rented a car that got us away from the hotel strip.

I have been 3 times-my mother 18. She and my dad were world travellers and they would usually stop on the way to or from somewhere. My dad always said I should go and that I would love it. Been 3 times since he died and yes, he was right. Lots to do and see and not as expensive as everyone thinks, if you know the right places to go. Also, go in off season such as April-weathers great and it is less crowded. Dont worry about traffic-the bus goes everywhere on the island for a buck(maybe 2 by now). Dont miss Polynesian Cultural Centre.

Great for tourists just looking for some pretty beaches and good shopping. There are plenty of shows to go to such as in Honolulu there is the magic of polynesia show which is hula, fire dancing and magic all rolled into one. Its a good way to see some great hula without the cheesiness that comes with luous.

Has a lot of traffic congestion but it is the least costly of the Islands and there's a nightlife for nocturnal peeps and late night diners.

Very beautiful mountains, trees, flowers and beaches!Pearl Harbor and the USS Arizona memorial are a must, along with Hanauma Bay,which offers one of the best snorkeling sites in the world. The negatives are terrible traffic, extremely high pricing and overpopulation in Honolulu and Waikiki.Overall the people are very friendly and helpful.

Not a place to stay if you are trying to get away from it all (go to Kauai), but a nice intro to the islands. For serious bodysurfers, go to Sandy Beach or Nakapuku (SP?) across from Sea Life Park- these are the most challenging body surfing beaches I have ever been too- but if you don't know what you are doing be careful.

The best island. Great food, check out Alan Wong's for truly amazing food. Watch the sunset from the Moana Beach Bar, the best bar on the beach. The north shore is great during the months of November & December, amazing waves. While up there make sure to have lunch at Kua Aina, great burgers. Waikiki is the very best spot for people watching. Check out the Mai Tai bar at the ala moana shopping center, best lemon drops I've ever had and you are looking at the ocean.

I lived there for 4 years (stationed on a submarine.) If you go to Oahu, these are the things you MUST do:..... 1) Drive up to the North Shore to see the waves (especially in the winter months)..... 2)While you're up there, stop at one of the graffitied up shrimp trucks on the side of the road. They have the best shrimp EVER!..... 3)Go snorkeling at Electric Beach on the west side of the island. It's WAY better than the touristy places, and it's free too (bring your own gear though.)..... 4) Go to the Pali lookout. It is perhaps the most beautiful view in the world..... 5) And last: Hop on a plane and visit another island for a day or two... they're even better than Oahu! Have fun, and Aloha!

More surf spots than you can shake a stick at, more night life than you can handle. I know it's expensive, but this island is the heat.

Honolulu reminds me a lot of Miami, very similar in layout and style. Waikiki has a lot of great hotels and nightlife, lots of stuff to do. My favorite experience was visiting Pearl Harbor, where you can still see plenty of evidence of the Japanese attack. The USS Arizona is still leaking fuel into the bay, it was something else. I went there on a day when veterans of the attack were holding a memorial ceremony; it was moving hearing about their experience on that day in which seemingly no one on the base was expecting an attack. Outside of Pearl Harbor, there isn't much of interest in Honolulu, just hang out at the beach in Waikiki and go to the nice restaurants in the area. Go out into the island. The best surfing is found on the Northeast coast of the island.
