At 4038 square miles, the Big Islan really is BIG. Not only that, but a handful of volcanic mountains dominates the interior, making crossing from coast to coast a real challenge, to say the least.

The Kona coast is almost guaranteed good weather. Just the right mix of island history and beautiful scenery. The helicopter ride is worth the money because you get a great overview, literally, of all the island offers and then you can go back by land to anything that particularly interests you.

All the Hawaiian islands are great! However, the Big Island is the best because it has the greatest variety of scenery, including the active volcanoes, and because it is least touristy. Be sure to drive over the Saddle Road.
