No one thought it from Opening Day, even me, but they did an outstanding job. Hats off to the champs. :)

It took 86 years and an eclipse of the moon but the Red Sox have won the World Series. And finally, after 18 years, Bill Buckner can get a night's sleep. 18 years...like 1918, the last time the Red Sox won the Series. And the minkster made the Bay Area news because he being an idiot at the Bus Stop (bar) in the Marina. OC: I'm The Only Sox Fan who's rooting for them to lose. Puzzled? Here's an analogy. Think for a moment about your first time. You waited 15 years (ok so maybe 30 for some) for this one fantastic magical night which is supposed to transform you into adulthood. Then it finally happens and lasts a mere 10 seconds and is awkward and uncomfortable and you are thinking Wow it was kinda cool but now that the celebration is done, I kinda wish I waited. That's like the Sox winning. I have plenty of fun just getting a taste of winning (again, refer to the sex analogy) by the Sox consistently having a competetive ball club and making the playoffs. Anyway my point is that I've been waiting my whole life for this one moment - and granted, I'd like to see it happen - but once it's over I'm afraid I'll be a bit let down, because now what am I gonna hope for, another Yankees dynasty? Never. HAY here's one more crazy comment for you stats buffs...how many come from behind victories did the Yankees have this year? 61* Sound familiar? Shall we call this the beginning of the curse of the Maris??? Old comment: Only 3 stars because as a life-long Sox fan, I've been that guy too many times. You know, that guy who says to anyone who will listen, This is the year my friends - THE YEAR that the Red Sox will win it all. You are all wrong, quit your doubting, we got the hitting, we got the pitching, we got the heart, we will pull through and win the Series. I've come to realize that there have been too many of those years since 1918. 86 in fact. 86...like 1986, the year we lost to the Mets...oh no that's all we need is another bad sign.

I don't believe. Ha! UPDATE: They started winning when I started talking trash, so I will continue talking trash and will take responsibility for my part if the Curse of the Bambino is broken. (nothing works right without numbah)

[21 OCT Update] Well, look who is eating crow today? Who would have thunk it? The Red Sox exorcized big-time demons in this very improbable, come back from a 3-0 deficit and within 3 outs of a sweep. Give the Chowds their props. The difference maker is the incredible Curt Schilling; next to Clemens, the greatest pitcher of our day. But to truly break the curse, they must win the World Series. I think they will. [Original Post] Poor Chowds (short for Chowderheads). The Sox will NEVER win a World Series because they will NEVER BE in another World Series. Generations of Boston fans will be decomposing in their graves and the Sox will still be getting beat by the Yankees year in and year out. The so-called Yankees-Red Sox Classic Rivalry is no more a rivalry than a Demolition Derby between a Mack Truck and a Yugo, a knife fight between Guillotines vs. French Aristocrat Necks, or a comedy showdown between Seinfeld against Will & Gay. The Yankees always win and the Red Sox always lose -- How is that a rivalry? Those pathetic Chowds are going nuts in Boston. Where else would the Mayor and the Clergy gather around Fenway Park and pray for the Lord to Lift the Curse [Shouldn't the Mayor be praying for more parking]. Tonight, when the Yankees are leading 12-2 with 2 outs in the in the Bottom of the ninth and Johnny Damon has just hit a weak pop up to short. If you were to ask 100 Boston fans if they would trade every Celtics, Bruins, and Patriots world title for just one extra out, 99 of them would say yes. Seethe and Stew for another year Chowds. You will never see the Sox win the World Series. Long live the curse!!!! I love it!!!!!!!!

History making team, the only one to come back from 3-0, should win the World Series. Francona is vindicated and now among the elite managers in baseball, this accomplishment is so great. All the ghosts are dispelled, the curse is now gone. Put the storybook away, the story is true. How appropriate that their road to immortality travelled through New York and they got to dance on the infield grass of baseball's Mecca, Yankee Stadium. If you would have told me the Yankees would have won two games in this series, I would have asked how? If you would have predicted Boston could win this series with almost no production from Manny Ramirez, I'd have said no way. Ok, Sox and Sox fans, finish the job. Win the World Series. Yankee fans, like me, should have nothing but respect for this team because we know how good the Yankees were this year, how powerful a tool momentum is and how hard it is to win one game when you're down 0-3. This team has grit, and great bats. So much so that it will overcome a mediocre (overall) pitching staff and mediocre defense, and the occasional swoon and slump, to which they are given. David Ortiz turned in a great performance and no pitcher seems able to stop him. He will get hit by at least three pitches in the first four games of the World Series, but he put this team on his back and carried them into the World Series. The greatest rivalry in sports has new life. Go Sox!
phlip-tout 10/21/2004
They haven't won in 80 bla-bla years. How can a non-New Yorker not root for them?
irishgit 10/20/2004
I'm a Red Sox fan, so every year at this time I start to believe. And every year at the same time I start to wonder how they're going to mess it up this time. UPDATE AFTER GAME 5 ALCS: I think I need some refreshment or better medication. I'm not sure how much more of this series my heart can take. Trust the Sox not to go down gently, and perhaps, perhaps, perhaps, not go down at all. UPDATE AFTER ALCS VICTORY. I am so proud to be a fan of this team today, and to have been one for almost 40 years. God knows what happens in the series, but it's been a hell of a ride so far. Sports just shouldn't matter this much. But tonight it does. Tonight it does.
hawkeye05 10/20/2004
The Red Sox are very skilled indeed. they have been plagued by too many injuries, though.
katmandoo 10/20/2004
Don't care for baseball but I truly hope the Sox win. They deserve it.
jaywilton 10/20/2004
The momentum's with Boston;assuming they finish off Steinbrenner's millionaire's,the curse is over.
magellan 10/19/2004
Just a gut wrenching couple of days for the Sox and their fans. Almost painful to watch - so many chances to win or lose. If Schilling is Schilling today, they have a good shot at getting to a game 7... and ANYTHING can happen in a game 7, despite either team having any pitchers left. What a series.
Harpuia 10/19/2004
There's some glimmer at the end of this rainbow, but if the Red Sox make one mistake, we're gonna see a riot on the streets in Boston. I insist any Boston folks who do not like riots to leave now, and come back in a week.
jgls 10/07/2004
my heart says yes, but my head tells me no. there is no doubt that my beloved bosox have as much talent as any other team in the playoffs, but something always happens when the sox are this close to ruin my october. even if we get past the hated yankees which i believe is a distinct possibility, we would still have to face a formidable cardinals team in the world series. my fingers and toes are crossed, i have said prayers, and i am hopeful.
jamestkirk 10/07/2004
Like the Astros, they have the most momentum of any team heading into the AL playoffs. If any year is theirs, this is it. They are playing better baseball than the Yankees and are more than capable of taking them. Schilling and Pedro are far superior as 1-2 pounch than what the Yanks have. Only the Red Sox inferiority complex to the Yankees can prevent them from the AL pennant.
netw1212 08/03/2004
Get serious!
BeatlesfanStev eo 07/10/2004
They are most definitly pull this one off. this si there year, and i don't know if you heard but they are talking to ROGER CLEMENS. If they can get there hands on roger wow that would be great.
RedSox4Life 03/30/2004
As a life long Boston fan, and also a life long Yankee hater, I have to say that this is the best Boston line up ive ever seen. The moves in the offseason greatly helped the Sox, but they need beware injuries. Schilling and Foulke make great additions to the pitching...but age in Schilling, and the inevitable sucky year produced by every star the comes here after great performances elsewhere could hinder the team. As usual, i believe...but may have my hopes dashed once again. The Sox will win the pennant, but im not sure about going all the way
Blanco~Nino 03/20/2004
THe red sox may very well make it to the world series, but alas, they will not win it because they are indeed the red sox!
aa5990 03/19/2004
The Boston Red Sox seem to have a better team now, but it's always the same story. Boston will lead the Yankees in the A.L. by five games or so into July. The Yankees will rally to get closer to Boston. Then, in September, Boston will usually collapse. They will probably only grab a wild card berth. IfBoston does survive round one, they will have to face the Yankees. The Yankees will win again as usual and New York will go on to compete in the world series. Boston is a good team, but the Sox will eventually fail again.
mcjiggy 03/17/2004
The fact that they are due a world series, they have one of the best if not the best pitching staff now with Pedro martinez, Derik lowe, tim wakefield and the addition of curt shilling. Also they have a reliable closer now in keith foulke. They have not lost any of their players from the record breaking offense of last year with the exception of Todd walker.
BklynGirl 03/09/2004
They will go down yet again in 2004 - even without Aaron bleepin' Boone! Yanks rule!
ellajedlicka21 03/09/2004
They haven't won the World Series since 1918, what makes one think they will this year? It's the same story every year...Red Sox have high hopes at the beginning of the season in unreasonable denial of the inevitable fact that they will not attain a first place spot in the AL East because their superiors from New York will hold that honor. The Red Sox are well-established as perennial losers and they have solidified that title through executing that specific action an incredible amount of times throughout their history.
CanadaSucks 03/09/2004
I can't stop laughing.
zuchinibut 03/08/2004
Schilling should provide Martinez with a lot of help in the rotation, and Foulke greatly improves the bullpen. Despite missing out on ARod, the Red Sox offense could still be formidable.
