Based on athleticism alone, Culpepper is one of the top quarterbacks of his time. He has height, size, and mobility, along with a strong arm. He has always had the ability to make big plays. But he has also makes plenty of stupid plays, primarily because he really doesn't do a great job of reading defenses. To be blunt, he isn't all that bright. He can make plays on the run, but has never really been a pocket passer who can make decisions quickly, like Peyton Manning or Dan Marino. Which is why his knee injury is such a problem for him. He still has the arm to make plays, but he's going to have to become a pocket passer should he expect to remain a starting quarterback in the NFL. Unfortunately, that transition isn't an easy one to make for a quarterback with Daunte's profile. Perhaps it was a stretch for the Dolphins to give up a second round pick this year for Daunte. I believed that the Dolphins earlier this year should have signed Drew Brees rather than Culpepper, who while he doesn't have as much physical talent as Culpepper, offers more intangibles, like reading defenses, control of the pocket, and leadership, which makes him a more consistent bet. An offense that makes few mistakes usually comes out at the better side of .500. Consistency is what gets you into the playoffs. Culpepper is an entertaining playmaker, kind of like Michael Vick, but Brees is the type of QB that wins championships.

Duante Culpepper has been overrated since 2001. His numbers and records are very misleading. The only reason why he has so many passing yards is because he's always trying to dig himself out of a hole he was put in by either fumbling, throwing an incomplete pass, or getting his sacked. I watch his games every week and his drives are so predictable: 1st and 10, 2nd and 14, 3rd and 28, and if he's lucky enough, he'll complete some long-yardage pass, otherwise, another 3 and out for the QB who consistently takes 8 seconds to throw the ball. I see someone has written that he hardly ever gets sacked. ARE YOU CRACKED?? I watch him get sacked all the time!! He gives the D-line 8 seconds everytime, guaranteed! He's terrible, and I'm glad he's leaving MN. He and Mike Tice are the last remnants of the Denny Green era. I'm glad they're gone.

When he's not on sex boats, he's actually pretty good.

Wow... If there's one thing he's done right this season, it's been sucking. He did awful when he was in there and has spent the rest of the season injured. I mean, whenver Brad Johnson is outperforming you in your place, maybe that's indictive of the fact that you are not an elite quarterback... probably not even a decent one.... Besides, isn't he tied for the record of most fumbles ever in an NFL season with 23? That isn't the kind of record I'd want to hold.

What happened? More picks than, well, anyone else? (numbah scratches his head) UPDATE: Missing Moss? UPDATE: Here's some numbahs to chew on. 4 tds, 12 ints. Jake Plummer, the supposed interception machine (only 3 in six games so far), couldn't even do that bad in his Cardinal days when he played with a broken finger.

Definitely a good player, but lets see how well he does this year without Randy Moss to throw to.

no.... no ... no... I would never want a QB that can get as raddled as Daunte. I'd kill myself if i live in MN

Great QB. This guy is so big and strong, he never gets sacked. He makes good decisions both physically and mentally. Has great coverage on the field.

Outstanding QB. He can pass the ball, run, and can hardly ever get sacked. Maybe a nominee for the MVP.

Culpepper is a freak of nature. At 260 lbs with lightning speed, he is just about unsackable. Blitz a corner? Culpepper just ignores it - will take the hit and still throw a perfect pass. A defensive end breaks free? Doesn't matter - no 300 lb man will be able to catch this QB. Culpeper is just too mobile. What i can't get over is Culpeper's touch - for a guy that big to be able to throw that soft a ball on the run... amazing. If he can learn to hold on to the ball a little better, he may become the league's best QB.

He limits his fumbles and he is a great QB. He can avoid being sacked by his toughness. Vikings fans will still put Fran Tarkenton number 1 until Culpepper leads them to the Super Bowl, something Tarkenton did 3 times (Kapp once).

He's a big, physical guy. He's got a powerful arm. He improved his pocket presence last year, but he'll still take off and run like a big halfback if he's in trouble. He's 266 and can run like the wind. He still has some trouble with reading coverages, going to the second or third option, but he'll mature and start seeing the whole field.

My fave player, and the best young QB around. In 10 years when all quarterbacks are 6 and a half feet tall and weigh 250, we'll all remember the man that pioneered them, and that was Culpepper.
