A good republican who should attempt the republican presidential nomination, though he is not my #1 favorite candidate at this time.
erica777 11/14/2006
What makes this man even think that hes capable of serving as president and if this happens it will probably be war amongst ourselves meaning the citizens. Give it a break with all the big wigs they are all crooked in some form or another. maybe we should just let me be president.
RIAUSA 07/15/2006
This morally discusting man publicly cheated on his wife and divorced his wife and re-married. He yelled at Bill Clinton when he made a mistake.
MattShizzle 05/21/2006
I didn't like him when he was Speaker of the House, but he wasn't as extreme right as GWB or some we have now. He also is a pretty good writer of my favorite kind of science fiction (alternative history.)
bebe23 02/20/2006
Who is he to moralize to anyone after the way he divorced his sick wife(see edt4's opinion)? He is the typical amoral blowhard!!!
Gingrich stinks 02/07/2006

A great mind, real policy wonk and a great grasp of history. Should run in '08. He has my vote if he does.

Manages to be a sleazeball, forcing his wife to nightclubs and still is renowned as a family values man and Reborn Christian. Reborn? As in condemned, right?
maikuhaiku 02/11/2005
Claimed to have strong family values, yet forced his wife to come along with him to strip bars. Now that's what I call a slimebucket!
edt4 01/26/2005
A hideous potato-faced freak and hypocrite. Hopefully, he'll one day fly away and disappear into the ether in the hot air balloon of his own pompous verbosity. Preaches family values, then divorces his wife while she's deathly ill with cancer. Why do we exalt lowlife a**holes like this in American politics? Looks like he belongs on a dinner platter with an apple in his mouth.
blueblitzkrieg 09/10/2004
He preached against Bill Clinton's morality, all the while he was cheating on his wife. He even served the divorce papers to her while she was laying in a hospital bed dying of cancer. Embodies all that is sick and hypocritical of the right-wing fascists.
gangstassnigga 08/26/2004

Neocon to the core. Has mastered strong-arm politics.
marcm9999 07/10/2004
Say what you want about him, but at least he has guts. Is not intimidated by the left. Calls it like it is. Yes he has faults but he is a fighter of freedom. A brilliant politician.
Redoedo 06/25/2004
Abrasive and on the wrong side of some issues, but it was Gingrich that forced Clinton's hand on Welfare Reform and balancing the budget. For that, he deserves some credit. It is doubtful that Clinton would have ever achieved a balanced budget without Gingrich at the helm.
kolby1973 03/08/2004
I couldn't even imagine the smell poor President Clinton had to endure when this toad sat behind him during State of the Union addresses...he is a total waste of space and should not be a U.S. politician...
Moosekarloff 03/08/2004
Rake, reprobate, hypocrite and phony of the first order. Did more than his share to destabilize this country during his heyday, and set the country off course while flouting (flating?) his self-appointed status as National Saviour. His Contract Out On America was about the most useless and dishonest political crap I've ever gotten a whiff of (that is, before the extended flatus of the second Bush Administration squanked out), his political grandstanding of closing down the government to make an anti-tax statement was about the most irresponsible act in U.S. political history (W's invasion of Irag ranks a very close second), and his championing of the dissolute and wrongheaded conservative ethos that's currently destroying this country is, and has been, such a grave disservice to the citizenry that this rightwing bag of goosecrap should have a bone hammered up his butt for rabid dogs to drag him around the neighborhood. The ultimate hypocrisy was when he condemned Bubba Clinton for having an affair with a staffer young enough to be the President's daughter, but had no problem having an affair with a staffer young enough to be his daughter himself. Yeah, Calista would go to choir practice while Newty would sit in the pews and read the Bible before going off to the Motel Six to take advantage of the 4-hour rate. What a phony and moral bottomfeeder. Also interesting that he served divorce papers on his first wife while she was in the hospital recovering from cancer surgery, and then ducked out on child support payments for several years. His first wife and kids were living in the basement of the family's church, totally dependent on the charity of other parishoners. That's real Republican Family Values for you!!! And yet this guy tried to come off as the greatest thing since double-ply toilet paper, insisting his mutant vision and brain-dead ideas were the recipe of salvation for our fair but beleagured republic. What a sick joke!!! Sicker yet was that the drooler faction bought into this, and to this very day won't admit they backed the wrong horse: bring up the topic of former rightwing icon and darling N. Gringrich in the presence of most conservative turdbrains and the response is embarassed silence. No wonder. What is laughable is Lewdy Newty's presence these days on that ridiculous Fox Network as Political Analyst, a capacity in which he is supposed to offer objective insights on the current Presidential race, yet uses that opportunity to pollute the airwaves with totally overt rah-rah propaganda in service to W's re-election efforts. Yet, the retarded mindset of the drooler faction swallows this transparent, manipulative, dishonest dogdirt with gusto and opens up for more.
Enkidu 12/28/2003
Moral degenerate. Cheated on each of his wives and carried on a seven-year affair with a House staffer (1993 to 2000, DURING the Clinton impeachment). One of the worst hypocrites in politics in the last twenty years. This man leaves a trail of slime even his dog would avoid.
jgls 12/22/2003
would still be in office if he wasn't so abrasive.
The Real Truth 11/14/2003
I saw Newt on T.V. the other day he's making a comeback. Where's he been? Well the family values platform that he supposedly stood on, had a board missing. Him. A hypocrite's hypocrite.
abichara 11/03/2003
Gingrich did an excellent job in organizing the opposition to Bill Clinton, particularly in the leadup to the 1994 elections. No one, and I mean no one believed that the Republicans had a chance to retake the House and the Senate in 1994. His 10 point plan, the Contract with America, really determined the political agenda in Washington for the late-1990's and on the balance it was good for the country. The Republican party for the first time in many years was at the center of policy debates in Washington. It forced Clinton to move to the center and enact pragmatic domestic policies like welfare reform, which has helped out a lot of people. Ironically, Clinton managed to win re-election because Gingrich forced him to the center. The negative side of Speaker Gingrich is way too evident of course. He treated the Speakership of the House much like a Prime Minister does in heading a government. Simply put, he overstated his mandate. He really managed to alienate a lot of people in the House by investing too much strength in the Speaker. He thought that he was bigger than the President and got slapped down for it. The Republicans should have never shut down the government; it fell perfectly into Clinton's political trap. In 1996, the party should have run another campaign to beat Clinton; instead they managed to become divided amongst themselves. In retrospect, Gingrich really blow it. Overall, Gingrich didn't do a good job of running the House. He did a good job of organizing opposition to Clinton's policies, but the legislative process was not his strong suit. His arrogance was too much for the job, even for a Congressman!!!
President -X-D 04/28/2003
The wrong man at the right time. When the Republicans won control of Congress in 1994, the opportunity was there for the Speaker of the House to represent a MAJOR change in US policy. Who did we get? Newt. This guy is just as slimy as ANY of your Democrat lifetime politicians, just as much of a liar, and is incapable of backing up anything he says. I liked him for about two weeks; the more I heard from him, the less I liked him. Instead of taking a strong stance against high taxes and Clinton's Socialist policies, he wastes our time talking about prayer in schools and adoptions instead of abortions. Are these bad things? No, but they are for the back-burner... the important thing was to introduce the people to ideas and a Congress which SHOULD have been totally different from what the US had for the last 40 years - and he blew it big time. He is the same kind of mush-mouthed politician that the people were trying to get RID of, and instead of being a leader he was a compromising, lying imbecile. Thanks for nothing, Newt. (Memo to The Real Truth - I told you once that I disliked Gingrich and rated him a two. I thought about it, and I downgraded him.)
TheFreak 04/27/2003
Oh, yes, i love the man. He's so wonderful for my personal entertainment. Here's a man who cannot distinguish between a menstrual period and an "infection", and who claims that men are driven to go out and hunt giraffes. He's also the champion of apocryphal stories - like his tale about a ten-year-old put in detention for saqying grace (which turned out to be entirely false). I don't have a problem with folks who want to be conservative, but they could at least base their opinions in verifiable fact. And speaking of which, where were all the conservatives who are STILL harping the Clinton thing when Mr. Gingrich was caught with his pants down?! He isn't one of the worst, which is why I gave him the extra star, but the main thing that I have against him is that he's a complete idiot. I'm ashamed that the man is from Georgia.
Silverbunny 03/28/2003
He is like the pot calling the kettle black. Another miserable piece of crap.

JTree 02/24/2003
Buffoon. Newt was the Clinton whipping boy because he let it happen. If he had been taking care of business, Bubba never would have been re-elected. Divorcing your wife on her sickbed to marry some congressional bimbo takes a lot of brains, class, and sensitivity.
mikeholly93 01/21/2003
A HORRIBLE DISGRACE TO AMERICA!
ellajedlicka21 11/25/2002
He was Clinton's most prominent opponent during his term. His awe-inspiring hypocrisy amazes me. He was opposed to programs helping the impoverished and minorities.
Damifino 07/07/2002
A perfect example of what happens when you get on the wrong side of the liberal media. The fourth estate decided from day one that he was toast, and they got their wish. Shame on them for ruining the career of a smart individual and a leader who, when he wasn't trying to suck up to the media, ran on a great deal of principle.
Rusty 06/12/2001
Newtie-baby has certainly been one of the more colorful Speakers of the House to come along in a long time. However, his assiduous ego, coupled by his refusal to compromise and work with Democrats as well as Re-smug-licans, worked against him and his cohorts (Armey, Paxon, DeLay, McIntosh, etc.) and prevented him from really being effective in any significance. In a collective of 535 congressional egos, it was Newtie-baby's that stood out the loudest. To have even a remote chance of passing significant legislation, backs must be scratched, and compromise must be reached. Newtie-baby's firebrand, take-no-prisoners approach did gain him status as a talking head on political talk shows but did very little to advance his con-smirk-ative crusade. His caustic demeanor and his reprehensible personal life (namely, he divorced his first wife while she was ill with cancer so he could pursue a career in politics, after she had unswervingly supported him all through his Ph.D. schooling at Emory University!)only served to increase my contempt for him and his bastardizing of the political system. Notice how Newtie-baby dropped out of sight after his fellow Re-smug-licans turned on him when the aborted coup-de-t'at took place? Methinks the Beltway blowhards won't be missing him except to get his opinions very now and then. I sure won't miss him. He and his Re-smug-lican ilk amuse me, despite their professions of compassion for the downtrodden, the poor, the racial and religious minorities, and so forth. Excuse me while I go play my Stradivarius.

A gifted politician who hurt himself over ethics issues. Were it not for that he would probably be the head of the Republican Party. In any event he has not done enough work to rehabilitate himself.

A funny little duck. How is it American politics can attract such insignificant minds?
Ruby 02/14/2001
A tragic figure, but tremendously influential. It's amazing how such a brilliant strategist (who somehow brought the Republicans back into power in the Congress) could so poorly misread his mandate, his opponent (Clinton), and his own capacities for leadership. He became his own worst enemy.
Perspective 01/26/2001
Terrible on three levels: Personal- Can you imagine cheating on your wife and then serving her with divorce papers while she is in a hospital bed? Hypocrisy of conduct- spends tax dollars, but fraudulently evaded taxes. Public policy- knee-jerk conservative, harsh and heartless.
riggin 01/24/2001
You did great things for us while in the Congress. So sorry that you fell into a lifestyle that stole away your power and influence--we needed you. Perhaps, in humility, you can find an even greater place to serve!
au8416 01/22/2001
Newt Gingrich is a man who inspires strong partisan opinions....I think in time he will be appreciated as one of the most if not the most significant Congressional leader of modern times...he was articulate, had a clear vision, and was consistent...his agenda of cuting taxes reducing the role of government , saving medicare and medicade...and a mixture of social conservatism and populism has now become the mainstream....both Clinton and the gop have adopted his agenda...he may not be liked...and he may have had the worst press coverage ever..distorting him.....but i think he will be one of those figures in history that you just cant ignore...liberals will hate and conservatices will love him...but he made american move in his direction of lower taxes reduced government and more conservative social values...the fallen angel of the conserative movement perhaps

glockfixer 12/28/2000
A very intellegent man who had a vision for this country. He helped to orchestrate the passing of the legislation that gave us the budget surpluses (part of the Contract With America). Most people will probably rate him lower than history will eventually see him because he is a polarizing figure and the media has distorted their view of him.
smileysmile 12/12/2000
Shame on Newt Gingrich- he was the guy who pointed his finger at so called "liberal culture" for all of our problems. During what he coined the "culture war", he admonished those liberals who's philosophy was "if it feels good, do it!" Personally, I have never met a liberal who believes this. Apparantley Newt does believe in this philosophy, after all he cheated on not one, but TWO of his wives!!! One wife was on her death bed while Newt was cheating, the next infidelity occurred DURING THE IMPEACHMENT!!!!! WHAT A HYPOCRITE. Newt Gingrich proves that Clinton supporters do not have some sort of monopoly on family problems, nor do so-called conservatives have a monopoly on morality. For this alone I am thankful for him.
prettysmart_gi rl22 12/07/2000
Newt is scum of the earth!!!
