The best thing to do is turn around and let your two feet take you in the opposite direction.

Try not to laugh.Might laugh, but then it might just make the situation worse. If I knew why they were cursing at me and I honestly caused it, depending on the situation I might apologize.
souljunkie 03/08/2005
I will ignore a punk potty mouth all day long.
jakemr33 03/08/2005
If I yelled profanities back at them I would be no better than they were...sticks and stones....compliment them, it will shock 'em!
Jar-Jar Binks 03/07/2005
Spew a few zingers at them and then flip them off once the taunting ends.
numbah16tdhaha 03/07/2005
Taunt them for being so unimaginative.
Skizero 03/07/2005
i live in NYC--this happens almost twice a week to me, and usually for no good reason. usually i'm too shocked to say anything back. but sometimes, especially if i know i can take them, i'll say something.
sixty7a 03/07/2005
Laugh at them, it makes them even madder!
Blanco~Nino 02/26/2005
Raise an eyebrow and continue walking.

It would depend on the situation. If I were arguing with someone and they cussed me out, I would respond in kind. If some loony-toons on the street yelled profanities at me, I would probably ignore him, and skedaddle, because I would think he was a deranged psycho.
kolby1973 04/11/2004
This has happened to me several times in the past, if it is someone I know and care for, I usually just yell back and try to resolve the issue at hand. When a stranger has done it to me, I almost always get right back in there face. Most people don't expect small guys to fight back, but I almost always do depending on how psychotic the person looks that is cursing at me...I am smart enough to know when to shut up...
OrangeCharlie 04/10/2004
I'd cure profanities right back at the person. Happens almost weekly at Walmart. HAHA!

I'm not going to lie. I'd either take it to the next level and use words that would make Howard Stern weep or just tell them to shut their hole.
Jed1000 03/12/2004
As with the other similar question if this started spontaneously.. that is, without any sort of catalyst.. I'd assume the person had a psychological problem and I'd get out of there.
LadyShark4534 03/11/2004
Just simply reply Shut up, please. You are quite irritating.
JonTheMan 03/11/2004
I'd give them a Thesaurus and ask them to check back with me later
jporterTN 03/10/2004
At me? Like called me names, etc? I don't know, depends on how it started. Most likely I've already been cussing if we've made it to that point. The profanity is probably a very small part of a much bigger issue. As far as people using profanity in front of me, its never bothered me. They're just words, and usually part of an expression.
abichara 03/09/2004
People who curse profanities at random people in utter anger are probably in need of a laxative.
kamylienne 03/09/2004
Laugh. If that's all they got, they're not worth my time.
irishgit 03/09/2004
It happens every day. My response varies according to the circumstances. Not worth getting twisted knickers over.
tvtator 03/09/2004
I would just walk away and ignore them
ClassicTVFan47 03/09/2004
Most people who know me for more than a few weeks respect me enough that they do not use profanity when I am present. This includes almost all of my family (with two rare exceptions) and most of my friends. However, when people use profanity around me, I typically ignore them until they clean up their speech. If I'm in my 'save-the-day-from-evil' mood, I typically will tell them how many years it has been since I have cursed and that there are millions of family-friendly words in the dictionary!
