Tim Reid had some other minor acting roles, but he is best remembered as Gordon Sims (aka Venus Flytrap) on the excellent late 70's/early 80's television series "WKRP in Cincinnati." By the time the program ran, the stereotypical black character had become more of a cliché, and the writers had some fun with it by slyly bringing black situations to the forefront. The result of this writing made Venus less token than many of his TV predecessors.

WKRP was probably one of the greatest shows to ever appear on television. A lot of Venus' characteristics were stereotypical Afro-American, but he was still a valuable member of the cast. Unfortunately, he was also the lowest paid cast member, which was definitely because he was the only black person on the show.
