I believe that older folks need to retake their drivers lessons every other year once they reach 75. Honestly, people get all mad at us teens for our driving when the elderly are far worse! When I was taking my drivers ed class, our teacher actually talked about a time when the kids were walking to the food court on their break and an older lady went onto the sidewalk, hit a kid, and kept driving. Hher car was found, parked in her driveway with blood splattered all over it. When the police asked her what happened, she didn't even realise she hit the kid! ....This is not to say that all elderly people are bad drivers, I just believe that driving is a privilage and not a right, and if, as we all get older, we are unable to drive, then that privilage must be taken away.

Granny can't run as fast as youngsters, can't even speak or think as fast. Everything is slower with (high) ages. Not rarely middle agers drive the same way as granny. Being old or young, if your speed is bellow the prevailing one in your lane - change the lane to the right. If it is one lane only road - and faster guys are behind you longer than 3 minutes - make some temporary stop to allow those behind you to pass. Unless your speed is at REALISTIC maximum. REALISTIC maximum is the speed 90% of drivers keep. You don't need to observe that 10% whose REALISTIC maximum is higher. don, toronto

Actually, my granny drives faster then most of the drivers (except the teens) in the town she lives in. I caught her going about 45 in a 30 speed limit zone. I told she was going too fast, and she said she didn't even notice.

Granny drivers should not be allowed. The only thing worse is when they are half and half. By this I mean when someone speeds pass you cuts and fronts then all of a sudden slows right down.

It's okay for someone to drive at the speed limit or slightly below it. What we shouldn't tolerate is the person whose driving skills have deteriorated so bad that they become a danger to themselves and others. My best friend was actually hit by a 81-year-old woman last week who left his car totaled and his arm requiring surgery. Though he felt bad for her, he also found her driving skills more than a little appalling. It's no fun for a senior citizen to give up their license and admit they need to be dependent on others. However, the alternative can be worse.

my grandmother was queen of the granny drivers and my grandfather drove like he was in the indy 500 wearing a blindfold. i dont know which was scarier.

If there's one thing that makes me angry it's when the road is chockfull of 75+-year-olds driving oh so badly. And it ALWAYS happens when I'm running late for a class or appointment. There should be a law for old folks who are driving.

I don't like 'em, but I try to get past the grannies ASAP and leave them behind like a bad memory.

I try and be patient with granny drivers because I tend to do it sometimes also, but if I am in a hurry I have to stick the 'ol foot in the mouth.

All people over 70 need to stop driving. Period.

very annoying to get stuck behind especially if you can not go around them. And Granny drivers are not always old. I swear that they always pull ahead of me and poke along. it is also frustrating when I am a passenger with a granny driver. I want to press that imaginary accelerator on my side and make them go faster.

I'm almost always stuck behind an old person that's going 10-20 below the speed limit when I'm running late for work.

I really hate waiting for old drivers or just really slow people. The speed limit is posted for one reason......................to be broken.

Sorry and I'm sure this isn't the most PC thing you can say, but old people are MENACES on the roads. (I plan on being one also, for the record...) But I think Seinfeld said it best when he asked: At what age do people decide they're not going to look when they back up?

It seems inevitable that I'll get behind one of these slow-paced characters when I'm late for work. Then they'll speed up when you try to pass them. They're not as bad as drunk drivers, but they're very annoying.

Granny drivers (of all ages and of either sex) really frost me. I once had a great uncle who was a notoriously slow driver; he got pulled over by a cop who told him that if he wanted to drive that slowly he should trade in his car for a wheelbarrow! That's how I feel about drivers who poke along below the speed limit (I get pretty annoyed by those who just drive the limit, too - I tend to drive above the limit most of the time). They really can cause frustration, aggravation, and potentially cause other drivers to take chances to get past them which may result in an accident.

Be tolerant. Everybody gets old (except for some categories on this list: drunk drivers, excessive speeders, falling asleep-ers, ...)

Keep in mind that I'm not specifically referring to older women drivers here, there are a lot of young men who are granny drivers. These are the people who are essentially too afraid to drive. They manuver through traffic indecisively, these are some of the most unpredictable drivers on the road because you don't know what they'll do next. Here's a hint, stay home or use the bus if you're afraid of driving. Many times when you're driving you have to make split second decisions and it's the indecisive ones who end up causing the accidents.
