They qualified under the rules of the time. Hardly token.

This isn't even the biggest token minority spot in the history of Olympic bobsledding. Herschel Walker being picked to join the American bobsled team was a huge token selection. The guys from Jamaica were definitely out of place, but the Olympics is about including many countries. This wasn't the only time, or the worst example of a country sending athletes to the Olympics who wouldn't be qualified enough if they were from most other countries.

I do not consider them token. they got there fair and square. I found myself rooting for this team. Not because of their skin color but just because jamaica not having any snow it was something they made it there at all.

They wanted to take part in the event and worked hard to get there. Since they qualified for the event per Olympic rules I wouldn't consider them token. They earned their spot.
