You gotta love this adorable little guy, especially when he was teamed with Porky. I'd say he fit in quite well with the rest of the Gang. "The Little Rascals" is what I believe to be one of the earliest programs to depict interracial friendships. These comedies should be a reminder to us all about how we should accept one another, differences and all.And don't forget Stymie and Farina, who both preceded Buckwheat.

Given the era that the "Little Rascals" aired as shorts, one is hard-pressed to deny that the Buckwheat character (played by Billie Thomas) was created primarily due to race. Nevertheless, he was treated as an equal among the other kids and perhaps that was the point, which was rather revolutionary circa 1934-44. Nevertheless, if someone were to break ground on a Token Hall of Fame and Wax Museum, you got to believe that Buckwheat would be a founding member. Billie Thomas was born March 12, 1931 in Los Angeles where he later died of a heart attack on October 10, 1980.

I always liked Buckwheat. He was an adorable little boy. I liked that he was just one the Rascal friends. I never picked up that he was treated any different from the other kids.

My Dad loved this guy. He named our first two dogs Buckwheat and Buckshot.

I don't know if he was included simply because of his race or not but given the era it's pretty cool that he was there.
