Best fight I have ever seen. More ebbs and flows than Ali vs Frazier. Put up there with holyfield vs Bowe II

this was the greatest fight I have ever witnessed. I thought Barkley won on points. I still have this on vhs, and i keep transferring it to others so they dont go bad. Iran Barkley could really have been something special, but his management was aweful. Now hes pumping gas at the BP in Cleveland, OH.

The last great fight by one of the ring's greatest ever. An absolutely stunning finish to a great fight. One of those electrifying moments like Foreman's knockout of Michael Moorer or Kirk Gibson's homerun of Dennis Eckersly. How could this possibly be? Open your eyes kids, it really did happen. Stunning. Just stunning.

I am ecstatic about the comments below this one. This is my single favorite bout of all-time. It had drama, twists and turns (including Duran's head after a stunning left hook in Round 8,) and a great display of pugilistic skills by Duran that haven't even been seen in 50 years. Barkley was in his prime --28 years old, 6'1, strong as 6 or 7 bulls, and coming off a vicious knockout of Hearns -whom knocked out Duran fours years previously. Barkley was also holding a grudge against Duran after Duran brutalized Barkley's friend Davey Moore and took his title. Davey Moore looked like a Picasso painting after Duran was done with him and Barkley wanted to return the favor on behalf of his deceased friend. If you followed the career of Iran Barkley before and after this bout, you will plainly see that he was in his prime during this fight. He demonstrated skills he never did before or after this fight. Then you have Duran, 37 years old, in his 22nd year as a pro and trying to outrace father time to a fourth world title in the dangerous Middleweight division. Duran had attempted to win this title in 1983, which was almost 30 pounds heavier than his natural fighting weight at 135lbs, by fighting a prime Hagler. Duran lost a hot decision by about 2 points, which was incredible to say the least. Hagler finally looked human after knocking out every challenge to his title before he faced Duran. And the fight? Fahgetaboutit! I can't do it justice with words. It is a must see. This fight confirmed for all that Duran, to quote commentator Gil Clancy, is one of the greatest fighters who ever lived.

I thought Barkley would win a decision, but the knock down was too crucial.

This was Duran's last hurrah and he made the most of it. For years, Duran had been chasing the ghost of Sugar Ray Leonard. He was looking for redemption, perhaps even atonement. On this night he would find it. The fight was close until the knockdown. Duran wanted it more, needed it more than Barkley. He reached back into the past one last time and showed Barkley who Roberto Duran really was! Even after having been spun around and almost having his head knocked off, Duran never lost heart. He gave his fans one last chance to see Hands of Stone. Barkley was unhappy with the decision, and blamed his friend Davey Moore's death on Duran. I expected a little more class from Tommy Hearn's conquerer.

Just an all out brawl from start to finish. I don't think I remember the fighters leaving the 5 foot area in the center of the ring. Duran pulled it out but the fight could have gone to Barkley.

Duran kayoed his 'no mas' rep with a beautifully fought performance to win the WBC middleweight title.
