I am not personally familiar with the Edgar Award, but it sounds like one with more substance than some of the others. The Edgar has been around since 1946, and that suggests that this award is more prestigious as well. I understand that Edgar Allen Poe is considered the father of the mystery genre, so it makes sense to name the award after him.
