Actually loved that weird idea of singing old standards in the crooner style, but he wasn't that versatile. Wanted to put on a tux and have a martini every time he sang. He should put out an album of standards.

You know I am really tired of hearing all the hate directed at John. People are entitled to their own opinions but, at the same time, I think they are responsible for stating that opinion in a decent and respectful manner...or not at all. So you didn't like John Stevens. Lots of other people did. Every single one of the contestents on AI3 had their fans and their critics. So support the one(s) you like and leave it at that (there were a few contestents I did not like at all but you won't find me bashing them every chance I get). For those of you who are fans of Mr. Stevens and aren't aware of this...he is coming out with a record this June. He signed on with Maverick records and you can view his offical website at: http://www.maverick.com/johnstevens/

He is just not talented at all. he can't sing, he cannot perform.....I had to look away when he was performing. I really want to understand what people saw in him. I feel bad for him how people treated him. I know he just wants to be an American Idol as everybody else and I'm sure he is a good guy, but talented people were kicked out to keep this boy on the show. It just did not feel right.

The extremes to which he could botch classic songs were both hilarious and a little disquieting. The boy should've never made it past Round 1, and he should have never gotten the fan following that he did.

I only gave him 4 instead of 5 stars because he had a few shaky performances (like My Girl!), but overall I really like the guy! King of the Road was my favorite JS performance. He's talented and has a unique style. Too bad he wasn't around for Big Band Week:( I'd be interested to see how his career develops.

He is just..... amazing. He's just so innocent, and his voice is so powerful. How can you not love him? To be honest, I never liked his type of music until I heard him sing it. He's right up there with the best of them!

I thought that John Stevens will be another face to watch for along with the others this year. He's probably one of the few young singers that can do crooning lounge music so very well. He's heavily influenced by Sinatra, Martin, Sammy Davis Jr. amd others. I imagine him singing in front of a 50-piece orchestra several years from now if he betters his singing a bit. He was kind of uneven on some performances on the show, just not used to other genres. But there's a strong chance that he'll be on a record label soon, just not now. He has to come up with his own singing style, not imitate Sinatra, because you can only go so far with doing that. To John, you have many fans out here, hope you have a good career ahead!

how did he get to the top 12? it's simply unbelievable. yes, he can do a mediocre frank sinatra impression, but that's about it. if you truly enjoy his style, buy a sinatra cd and you will see that john stevens doesn't even compare in that arena.

I would like to see John Stevens perform again 5 years from now. His voice will be more mature. He definetly has his own style and should be proud of it. He should take voice lessons to practice other vocalist's songs. I could definetly see him in movies or on stage. Good Luck to you...I really enjoyed your Frank Sinatra singing!!!!

John Stevens. He doesn't overdo it, he doesn't underdo (if thats a word) it. He is what some people like, what some people don't like. He doesn't act cocky, hes happy to be where he is, he's quiet, not annoying. He doesn't just scream out a song...he puts words into music...real music. I personally love him and I think that if he had gotten a chance to get to Big Band Night, he could have really shown off his personality...really, a crooner doing MOTOWN! That's such a rip-off and it's too bad he didn't get to B-B night. Oh well...John I love you, and you bring the 50's songs to a new generation, like me! I am in love with 50's songs lol!! Love your voice John, keep on singing!

I can't rate John Stevens good or bad, because he was neither. He was average as Simon would say. There were nights that he sang really well, and there were nights that he was the worst of the bunch. He was brave by singing HIS genre of sonfgs and not the pop newage sensations. He loved what he did, and I think that's why he stayed so long. I don't think he was good enough to stay as long as he did, I think there were a few nights that he was riding on a suympathy vote, but hey, it's over and done with now.

Alright, anyone who says John Stevens is a horrible singer also probably thinks the members of DMX are better musicians than those in the New York Philharmonic. Just because he doesn't stack up to the contemporary definition of a pop icon, it doesn't mean he isn't good. Secondly, for people who think he can't sing in tune, i'll admit he's off pitch at time, however the majority of people can not judge pitch if their lives depended on it-- tons of other singers were ridiculously out of tune at times (even the finalists), it's just that they were screaming into the mic and singing so loud that it was overlooked. Also, when people use a whole-step vibrato it helps any pitch discrepancies.... John Stevens sings like a choir kid-- he tries to hit the note dead on, no vibrato-- that's HARD to do-- something that not many of the contestants would even try to do. The bottom line is he has a phenomenal, dark tone. He is the kind of singer that people can listen to for years. It's like Mozart vs. Eminem. Eminem is much more popular right now, but in a hundred years no one will even remember his name, whereas Mozart's music will still be considered thrilling and brilliant. John Stevens may not be QUITE that good, but his music had a potential for greater longevity than the others.

OK, John should not be the American Idol. I was a little worried that he was going to be carried to the finals by what I call THE MACHINE (Gen-Y people who motivate, via the INTERNET, to champion young Idol contestants like John and Jasmine and then monopolize the phones come time to vote). John had an interesting voice and where most kids his age consider Wu-Tang Clan as Classic music, here was young dude John belting out Sinatra and Bennett tunes. Cool. he just was incapable of singing certain kinds of songs which Idol forces you to do. Harry Connick made it big with the retro sound; maybe with experience and luck, John could develop an interesting act for old guys like me.

I respected this yound man till a point. He might just get that Record Contract and might be the wait ive been waiting for in the music industry. Ive been looking for someone to re-define the oldies and old classics and this is what Stevens can do if he wakes up and smells the cofee. He was shocked when Jennifer Hudson got cut before he was. He wont be asked for a tour other then the American Idol tour.

In an age of soundalike wailing divas, John Stevens provides a very nice alternative. His soothing voice (which those who dislike him call boring or worse) is timeless... and at the tender age of 16, no less! My boyfriend and I very much enjoyed listening to his performances on AI, and we look forward to the day that he puts out his first CD.

I am a school teacher. The incessant and blatent ignoring of the fact that Mr. Stevens sings terribly is akin to the esteem movement in classrooms. Everyone is given a ribbon, no matter how low the effort level, no matter how low the skill level. The negative outcome is that people with low skill levels and those with low effort levels are encouraged to think they have no room for improvement, that their work is up to par with the best. It's tremendously painful to hear John sing, but even more painful to see him praised for his awful voice. It's like the emperor with no cloths, people don't hear the awful notes, even though there's hardly anything but off key singing. People should have been truthful with him long before he ever reached IDOL. He's probabably got other things he's much more accomplished at, at least I hope so.

I love John Stevens! He brings something new to American Idol. Just because he is different does not make him horriable. Lately he has sang everyone of the other contestants music. He has not been able to sing his music. I love his voice and could listen to a CD of his all day. I just cant believe that people are sick of enough to trash a 16 year boy. He has no control over people voting for him!

I haven't watched American Idol this year, partly because I'm pissed the person I supported last year did not win. But that's another story. I did see John Stevens compete in the preliminaries and I was mildly impressed. There has been a lot of coverage about how lousy this kid is, and maybe he is. But all I can think is that the kid is only 16 years old and how he must feel hearing all these people say what an untalented loser he is. He's not much more than a child, and youngsters are not as capable of handling criticism on that scale as an adult might be. I really don't think American Idol should allow high school kids to compete; I don't think they're ready for that type of stress.

A one dimensional singer and even in that single style can't manage to stay on key.Zero stage personality! Despite what other people have said here, this show is about the whole package. It's American Idol not American singer. And just because singers are Black does not make them R&B singers. This competition runs the gamut of all styles and only those PERFORMERS that can cross the board deserve to win.Why is John Stevens the only contestant that Simon is nice to and how has he made it this far? The only thing I can figure is that his father is in the Irish Mafia and has Simon's mother tied up in his basement (that is if Simon even likes his own mother).

John Stevens is THE WORST THING TO EVER HAPPEN TO AMERICAN IDOL. He's the worst singer I have ever heard, even WORSE than WILLIAM HUNG! He has ZERO TALENT, ZERO CHARISMA, ZERO PERSONALITY. Basically, John Stevens is just a useless piece of human garbage who is stinking up the joint. Go snap that damn finger of yours somewhere else, you completely talentless moron ... and stop making the blood pressure of so many Americans go thru the roof. Just LEAVE already!

Kinda cute, but boring. Next time kid could you remember the words to the song you are singing. Update: Elton John needs to tell him not to sing Crocodile Rock or anyone of his songs ever again. He did ok with As time goes by and Mandy, but Simon is dead on as usual he has no personality, he is not one of the best singers(not even close) and yes he does look like Stan Laurel. So those getting uptight because oooooooh Simon might have said something rude then get over it. The public makes the decision, I'm not happy with it, if the public was going by talent and not popularity Jennifer Hudson would not have been voted off and this nice but below average singer would have been gone by now. I thought we were looking for good singers not who was the cutest.

I don't think voice lessons will help his voice or personality. He has had this whole tired look on his face since day one and he needs to go, and I totally agree that he should have been gone. You know why he is staying? It is because he's getting the whole 70-year old and older crowd along with his classmates and anyone that was upset last season with Clay not winning (even though people are acting like he's the winner when he was only the runner-up). That would be a mess if he wins it because that would bring down the ratings for the next season of American Idol. It is the same pattern each season: Kelly won because people liked her and not her voice and Ruben won because people felt bad that Tamyra didn't win in the 1st season and John Stevens will win it because Clay didn't win last season, so it's the saaaaaaaaaammmmmmmmmmme pattern. I can see it happening and it will continue to happen as long as this show is on. THIS IS NOT A PERSONALITY CONTEST, and people need to realize it. It is not too late for people to start voting on the voice and not the personality.

It's not his fault that the voting is totally screwed up and probably rigged. John is a very good singer when he sticks to the type of song he is good at. He's not really a great singer--people may have pegged him as this year's Clay Aiken, but he just doesn't have that star quality.

Great voice, very different style, may sometimes do bad but one bad song doesn't kill him. Ok My Girl was horrible. He looked pale that night. Anyway, now that JPL is gone, I hope he stays a little longer because I am sick to death of R&B, soul, Jennifer Screaming through the entire song Hudson, Latoya Great singer but boring performer London and everybody else except George Huff. I hope he releases an album,I'll certainly buy it. To those who says he is boring clearly doesn't realise sometimes performance is not about glitz and glamour, it can be about the singer, his voice and you. John Stevens has the most mesmerizing voice of the lot, and so his style be may limited but at least he has found his style. If his type of singing is not American Idol-ish, perhaps the title should be changed to American R&B Idol since everybody left sings that way.

I liked what he sang at his audition. he seems to have the voice for crooning. Unfortunately, he has really not done so well since. he has bombed on a couple of songs.
