We generally watched Wagon Train instead. A well made adult-oriented Western series that was a bit too mature for kids.

This was an oater but more than that. It often was based on character and relationships. James Drury was the Virginian during its long run. The series takes place on Shiloh Ranch in Wyoming in the late 19th Century. It had good actors playing the parts and great scenery. The series was based on Owen Wister's classic novel. The show ran for 90 minutes so development could take place. Doug McClure played Trampas the entire length of the series.

A western classic that kept us entertained for 90 minutes each and every week on NBC.

Very long winded Western could have been better, can serve to stisfy a needed Western "fix" if you need one.

I'd like someone to explain to me what why this show is any good. I remember sitting watching this and I'm thinking well pretty soon something will happen but it never did. The commerical breaks were more exciting!

What a bunch of Junk! It could have been much better had they shortened it to an hour...but with it being 90 min long it was just too slow.

This was a classic western drama that covered many facets of life in the late 1800's. The story lines were, at times, incredibly dramatic or hilariously funny. The characters changed and evolved to reflect the changes that occured around that time. It had many memorable characters who will live in our hearts forever.
