| ILikePie (55) 11/14/2007 | *sigh*... Final Fantasy is the most overrated game series ever to be released on the PSOne. This is just more of the same following VII and VIII.

| compEngineer0 (0) 04/09/2007 | One of my favorite games of all time! Everything is so good, characters, battle system, and the storyline is amazing! A must play for RPG fans.

| JJBurns84 (0) 05/03/2004 | Well, I've finally played it all of the way through after quitting many times. I think it's okay, but it doesn't live up to the other FF's (especially FFVIII). I did like the ending sequence.

| damagedjusticemetal (0) 04/29/2004 | Out of all of the Final Fantasy games for Playstation...this is the one I liked the least. Maybe thats because I didnt have enough time to beat it cus it was borrowed. But still, i sat through watching my brother almost beat it, and it didnt draw me as much as 7 and 8 had before this one. But hey, its Final Fantasy.

| kamylienne (80) 04/18/2004 | Admittedly, I thought the game was going to be lame, due to the shift in animation type (from realistic in FFVIII to cartoon-ish in this one back to realistic in FFX), but it didn't take much for me to get addicted. The graphics are incredible and the side games are entertaining (though that card game gives me a headache!). I wouldn't call this a challenging game at all, but it is a beautiful story. If you're overly empathetic like myself, you might want to be careful. I ended up crying a bit when I first saw that sequence with Vivi on the first ship after the boss fight . . . Poor Vivi! (Oh, give me credit, this is the only time I've ever cried at a movie/story/game, cut me some slack . . . .). (PS. IX is the roman numeral for 9, not 7)

| FFking (0) 04/18/2004 | FF7 sucks don't get it. The graphics are terrible. Everyone has big heads, and the storyline is as fun sitting in a white room for 5 years. Well you would probobly like this game if you have too much time on your hands, and you want beat every FF.

| Box Office (0) 11/06/2003 | Not perfect, but still one of the best games out there. Excellent story, characters, and mini-games.

| Spaz (1) 08/16/2003 | This game is pretty good. An improvement from FF8. The graphics are awesome and the storyline isnt bad, its also comedic and light. Not as dark as FF7, but its too easy to play, i meant heres noth that much of a challenge. I beat it in 3 weeks, and that was with school in the way and studying.

| Jerry's Girl (0) 05/17/2002 | Let's see. I was already a fan of Final Fantasy, but I've never played 1-6. To tell the truth I did'nt know they existed. I first experienced FF when my sister told me to take over the game while she took a break. Years later, I beat FF10. After that, I nearly beat FF8 but I can't kill Adel. 2 days after I gave up I took FF9 out my sister's room (they're her games). I didn't want to play it by looking at the cover. All I have to say is don't be fooled! The movie sequences are great, the controlls are easy, the characters are good, and so is everything else. On FF8, I found it hard to navagate on the map, not on 9 because everything is close by. It's also very humorous and the storyline is good. So if I were you, I'd get it.

| AndyInAmerica (0) 03/11/2002 | Truly disappointed with this game. i didnt realize how disappointed i was until after i had finished my week long binge on it ( laugh ). Biggest factor is the short length of it and quite lame characters, (scept Vivi, one of the best all time FF chars).

| The Waffler (1) 11/04/2001 | I never got the chance to finish ff9, but I almost did, and was very impressed. The story is weaker than FF7, but stronger than FF8. The characters could use a little work, however. The graphics are amazing, and the adventure is very worthwhile. I would have liked to see more character development, and at times it seemed there was no impetus to continue--that is, the characters just seemed to be wandering without reason. But, minor complaints. All in all, a good game.

| KnightofHo (0) 09/04/2001 | Well this will be quite a long rating, so if it looks cluttered it's not my fault, it's the fact that rate itall doesn't allow breaklines.
So getting down to the game itself.
The main purpose of this game was a finale to the playstation Final Fantasies on the advent to Playstation 2. If you look within the plot, it is quite obvious to anyone that has played ff's 1-8 that there are linked underlying themes. Such as the brother of your enemy plot in ff2/4j, the varying character likenesses and of course the most blatant of Zidane's lines, No cloud nor squall shall hinder us. This game was indeed the Final Fantasy Gamer's Treat. Nostalgia rang through the whole of the game and that was it's purpose.
Graphics : 10
The Graphics were unparralelled in the fmv sequences by any other RPG for the playstation console. Although taking on a more bishounen kawaii look, it did not subtract from the game, it only added the feel of a new world of wonders.
Storyline : 10
The storyline as i've mentioned before was a treat to the faithful players of Final Fantasy, ever since the dawn of the story based final fantasy there have been many great adventures, sojourns, and tales to be told. Final Fantasy 9 seems to be the bond that brings them together, combining the desolate sadness of the new age final fantasies with the rhythmic upbeat questing of the SNES final fantasies and more difficult than the average final fantasy which represents the NES Final Fantasies.
Playability : 10
The Controls were very straight forwards, easy to navigate around the map, the learning curve is very quick i'd say about 10 minutes or so into the game you'd most likely have picked it up, less if you've played other ff games before.
Battle System : 10
The Battle system combines the Materia system, junction system, specialized class abilities, and speed based attacking into one masterful battle system. The battle music gets a bit dull after a while but the game play does not.
Replayability :9
Well, what's this game for? Nostalgia, what better way to experience nostalgia than playing it again :P
Music: 9
It was good music, it wasn't the best that nobuo Uematsu is capable of, however this music was more of a background music than a leading driving emotional force. Perhaps this is a good thing perhaps not but it can not be denied that it was a high quality of music.
Sub-quests: 10
Chocobos, Moogles, Dwarves, Side Bosses, the side-quests of this game could very well have been divided into a game in it's own entity.
In conclusion, every part of this game resonates the fact that this game was for the faithful final fantasy gamer and to those who really played this game they can tell you the same.

| Iamopinionated (2) 07/13/2001 | Don't let the box art fool you. This is not a "cute" game for little kids. The characters make the game look like it's made for 5 year-olds, but it's not. The story line is good, it moves back to the more traditional FFs. I really like the world in FF9 as the cities and ancient civilizations bring it a lot of variety. The characters are interesting, dispite looking like freaks, and the enemy, Kuja, is someone that anyone can hate. The ending isn't nearly as cool as I thought it would be, but it was nice. The FMVs are awesome too. I didn't like it as much as FF7, but I thought that it was definately better than FF8.

| sxycheerleader09 (0) 07/01/2001 | I am a big Final Fantasy fan. This is the best game I have ever played in my entire life! It is breathtaking and I learned to love each and every character as if they were my friends. The music is so beautiful. When I finished it I can not describe the feeling that I had. Its amazing.

| Zidane (0) 03/18/2001 | Absolutely first class, superb and breathtaking!Just look at the ratings bar chart over on the right...it says it all. The chracters seem like real people, and you really feel for them. The practically non-stop action is broken only by some amazing FMV cutscenes, and some truly addictive mini-games. The graphics and level of detail push the PS1 to its very limits, and it really is the best. Harking back to the cutesy type ways of FF7, it surpasses FF8 by along shot. FF9 is by far the most versatile and spectacular game in the series, and probably the best game ever on the Playstation 1.
