Within a strike to win the World Series? Nothing short of dramatic.

Any series is great when Boston chokes.

The thing that people always seem to forget regarding Buckner's folly is that the game was tied at that point. So the sox still wouldve had to win it after that. I blame McNamara far more than Buckner.

By far one of the greatest series of all time. Especially games six and seven. Game six was truly remarkable, with the Mets appearing to be sunk after giving up those runs in the top of the 10th. But Carter hanging tough, along with Knight, Mitchell and Mookie fouling off all of those tough pitches before he hits the little dribbler was just magic! I have the official tape of the series and still watch it from time to time.

I disagree with melott. Buckner's playing first base and he's not far off the bag - there's no way Mookie's gonna beat that out. And yes Tim Teufel made an error but that is irrelevent, the Mets won the series. What Buckner did is cost the Red Sox their first World Series in decades.

Great theater! Fan man parachuting in, a smoke bomb holding up the game, Kevin Mitchell supposedly coming to bat in the 10th inning with no jock or underwear. McNamara leaving Buckner in instead of bringing in Stapleton. Mookie fouling off nearly a dozen balls before rolling one between Buckner. People forget that Tim Teufel had a similar error that cost the Mets an early game in the series. Buckner is improperly labeled as the main cause. If Buckner picks it up, there's no guarantee Stanley would have been at first to cover, or that Mookie would've beat it out. Easily the best full postseason and this WS should be near the top.

The Sox were twice one strike away from a series title in game 6, but Stanley and Schiraldi pitched like bush leaguers to tie the game and McNamara left Buckner in at first (he was normally replaced in late innings with a better glove man) and the game was lost. Game 7 saw the Red Sox struggle valiantly and lose again in their last series appearance to date.
