I firmly believe that a contract with Satan was in play for this series, but if it screwed the Yankees and let me party for a week in Phoenix (I was on leave while in the Marines at the time), I'll take it, kids...

My wife is a lifelong Yankees fan and I am a lifelong Orioles fan. At this point in time I had grown just a bit tired of the Yankees dominance, and seeing them get beat was a pleasure. Like most arrogant Yankees fans, my wife was so sure the Yankees would win. When Gonzalez won the series for the Diamondbacks my wife knocked me off of the dorm bed were we were sitting and immediately turned off the TV. She threw a tantrum like a 3 year old when I tried to turn the TV on again, so I went to watch the Diamondbacks celebrate in the dorm lounge while she stayed behind to wallow in pity. The baseball was great during that series, but it was made so much sweeter that it was the Yankees of all teams to be on the losing end.

The best one, from an objective standpoint, of the 2000's, and one of the better ones of recent times. I particularly enjoyed the Game 6 drubbing, and it was sooo good to see the Yankees, I mean, The Totalitarians lose that way. Statues of Luis Gonzalez should be erected in every North American city outside of the Tri State Area.

I rejoiced tremendously when Arizona deflated the Yankees in four *straight* games to take the Series. It proves that Steinbrenner cannot buy a championship. Your team has to have the desire and the heart to play strong, and the Yankees of 2001 just did not have enough heart to put Arizona away. They let the Diamondbacks back into each game, and they paid dearly. I don't care if Arizona wins another one ever. They won that one, and I saw it all up close and personal. :)

An outstanding Series,to be sure.My only reservation,is:why did it have to be the Diamondbacks?A team that was only in it's 4th year of existence winning it all?Such a Series,at the moment in time that it was,coming right after Sep. 11th,should,ideally,have had an old NL team representative - the Reds,the Pirates,the Phillies,the Mets,the Dodgers(How perfect that would have been -and I'm not even a Dodgers fan)(Though ,not the Giants.Thank Goodness we were spared the racist Barry Bonds in such a situation)the Braves,or,esepcially,the Cubs - any team,really,but the D-Backs (At least we didn't get the Marlins- THANK GOD!! -or the Rockies).Why couldn't the players on the D-Backs have made up one of those franchises?

In my eye, the third best World Series of all time, and the most dramatic walk-off, way more significant than Joe Carter's home run.

A good, back and forth series in which both teams appeared to be in control at various times only to see it slip away. The Diamondbacks open with two wins, lose the next three, two of them with the Yankees' down to their last out. Arizona trails 2-1 in game 7 entering the ninth but scores two against Rivera to win. Arizona's victory comes despite some dubious, to say the least, on field managerial moves.
