RIP - I had obvious issues with him on his ideological leanings, but he understood the importance of Federalism so I give him his props. Also dissented on Kelo v. New London, and that was a plus.

He has done a good job--above average CJ.

This guy is a great guy. He hasn't done anything wrong in his lifetime appointment of supreme court. He has interpreted the law grandly and I think he is in the top of the chief justices.

A great mind and judge.

Say what you want about the Rehnquist. The fact of the matter is that even his own colleagues respect him for being courteous and respectful. As far as his decisions, many people may not agree with him. But it doesn't take an intellectual to see Rehnquist has been very effective as a court leader and conference manager. Court historians rate him among the better Chiefs ever. But is he among the greats Chief Justices such as Marshall, Hughes, Taney, and Warren? Probably and/or probably not. But he was better than Burger, Stone, and Jay definitely.

Thank goodness he is in there to battle with Ginsburg and Stevens.

This Chief Justice of the United States is one of the best of the 20th century, and hopefully his legacy of strict constructionism will long affect the 21st. America is stronger having judges like him!

I always have a hard time deciding if this guy is better or worse than Scalia. On the one hand, he's doesn't have Scalia's intellect. The upside to this is that he's less influential. I guess it just depends upon whether you prefer the fool or the jerk. The world would be a far worse place if this guy's notions of justice were the norm.

Great American.

Slimebag who became even slimier after Bush vs. Gore. The people decide the president, NOT the supreme court. And to get the facts straight, Gore won the popular vote AND the electoral vote. An independent investigation by the media after the decision proved that. Bush has no right to be president.

This just in: Democrats were ordering the absentee military ballots be thrown away in the 2000 Election... that would have CLEARLY shown that Bush won.... back to subject, Rhenquist is a really good judge. I wouldnt call him John Marshall, but he has dont his fair share to do his job. Lets face it, as far as the 2000 Election goes, he saw all the evidence. All you liberals saw what was being aired on TV. He knows more than you.

No one better.

Probably the most undistinguished Chief Justice in Court history. A third-rate legal mind who was real cozy with that other fool, Tricky Dick Nixon. I really liked that robe he wore during the Clinton Impeachment Fiasco. Seems he saw a presentation of "The Pirates of Penzance" and had a tailor whip up something stylistically similar to the costumes he saw. This guy was the ring leader on one of the the gravest misjustices in our nation's history, the 2000 Presidential Election, which the GOP, with the help of its minions on the High Court, stole fair and square.

Why bother having an election?
benfergy 09/01/2002
A weird reactionary who once wanted to overturn Brown v. Board of Education. He will probably retire soon, but with the increased focus on the new nominees for the court, who knows?
TheFreak 02/26/2002
Possibly more of a jerk than Scalia. How did this creature assume the position of chief justice? And what, may I ask, was whatever president high on when they appointed him? Oh, yes, having a man like this at one of the highest positions in the entire country is going to give the rest of the world such a wonderful point of view about us. Hello, Roe v. Wade was one of the most important cases in legal history, Rehnquist my man. Obviously, people like you have yet to realize that humanity is indeed an equilibrium. Take care, everyone!
