Although he's a slight improvement over Dusty Baker, Cubs players and fans have found it difficult to climb aboard the "Sweet Lou" express." Having his club prepared for the post season, after two disasterous three and outs, would go far in spawning some loyalty, but I doubt he'll have the opportunity this year. Because he lacks the ability to manage or motivate, the division frontrunner will be relegated to also ran ...

With the Cubs now, and his act doesn't seem to be working, based on their performance so far this season Piniella is a grossly over-rated manager. A student of the Billy Martin school of management, although he is not as destructive as Martin (to his team or himself). I get the strong feeling that his act has a short shelf-life with players, and they cease buying the crap after a couple of seasons. In Chicago, it looks like they haven't bought it at all. It seemed apparent that some of his previous teams simply quit on him.

Shouldn't a great coach have a great record? Last I checked Tampa Bay was the worst in the Majors.

Having a tough time in Tampa Bay. I think he will quit before they fire him. He'll end up somewhere else and do better. Perhaps Philly in 2006!

He did a great job with the Reds. His work with the M's swings from 1 to 5 stars on a regular basis.
