Drew a lot of walks and was the first 3rd baseman to really put up big home run totals, not counting guys like Home Run Baker, who put up large homer numbers in the context of the time. Had the misfortune to play most of his career with the woeful St. Louis Browns of the 30's, but in a sense, he was the ancestor of the George Bretts and Mike Schmidts of the world. A very solid player, forgotten today by nearly everyone except for sabermetricians, baseball history buffs, and old Browns fans.
