I loathe him as an announcer, very self-righteous, curmudgeonly, and humorless. He was THE single best player in the game in the mid 70's though, with back to back MVP awards, and at best, the best 2b ever, at the very worst the third best 2b, behind only Hornsby and maybe Eddie Collins in my view. This guy could do it all, one of the most completely well-rounded players ever.

Baseball historian Bill James picks him as the best second sacker of all time. I'm not sure I agree, I'd probably give the nod to Hornsby, but Morgan was damn good, easily the best of his era, and a strong contender for best all time. Good at the plate and brilliant in the field, he was quick, smart and competitive as they come.

Why is Morgan so low? He is easily the greatest 2B in the history of the game. He could hit, field, you name it.

I would place Joe fourth all-time behind Hornsby, Lajoie, and Collins
