So nasty that Bill Veeck said that calling Hornsby a sourpuss is like saying Attila the Hun needs to work on his table manners. As unpleasant a man who ever played, Hornsby was a stone cold killer at the plate, on the basepaths and in the field. Probably the only man who could give Ty Cobb a run for his money as the biggest horses ass in baseball history. Hit over .400 averaged over four consecutive seasons, with a .424 season in there in 1924. Hit 301 homers, despite playing his first 6 years in the dead ball era, batted in 1584 and hit .358 lifetime, second only to Cobb for career average.

A cantankerous grouch, not likeable at all, but the most amazing hitter at the position ever. AVERAGED .400 over a 5 year stretch, incredible even though it was a hitter's era, and with lots of power too. At best, a pedestrian glove, but his offense outweighs that, and many think he's the best 2b ever.
