Although he was regarded as the best at the position during his playing career by many who saw him, his memory faded fast after his retirement. A very good glove man, he had a bat with some pop, but has been overlooked by Hall of Fame voters for decades.

Underrated power hitting 2b with the Yankees and Indians in the 30's and 40's, also managed several clubs, has a reasonable HOF case.
